This is our neighborhood pool and it used to be awesome. The only thing awesome today was Lisa who answered the phone the multiple times we called to see if the pool was back open yet because the chemical levels weren't right. She was very nice and helpful, it was refreshing. And the people in the sign in area, which included Lisa, were very polite. Today's experience left a lot to be desired. First the pool was dirty. Stuff littered the bottom of the pool, grit and dirt and even a Q-tip. Gross. Then a young man needed help in the deep end because he was unable to stay above the water. The life guard sat there watching. The young mans guardian swam frantically from the opposite side of the pool to save him and put the young man in the water where he could stand.....while the life guard watched a few feet away. Then a few minutes later the same life guard was SLEEPING while on his post. Another guard from the office came out and told him to wake up and get down and walk around to wake himself. Also, there were only 4 chairs for use. NOT the kind of experience we...
Read moreThere are at least two signs on the front entrance that list the pool as open. No additional signage with the current closure update. After having to drive all the way back around the block after encountering the locked doors, the other entrance also does not include a "pool closed" sign.
Instead, you have to interrupt the apathetic security guard while he reclines and uses his phone, So he can blankly stare at you when you ask him why they have not updated any of the building signs or the pool's phone message.
If you are lucky enough to encounter a friendly-ish DPR worker he just might give you THE PRINTOUT with all the updated summer 2021 pool hours/ closures.
On this day, luckily I did, which seems to be the only way to obtain completely accurate and non-conflicting pool info.
DPR site states that ALL the DPR+DCPS pools are closed for the summer, but Marie Reed & Wilson are open). The website is also confusing because some of the closed pools also list hours, and it says Deanwood is opening Summer '21 ( it...
Read moreThe air condition still doesn’t work in the Deanwood aquatic center. This is THE most ghetto place I know. I no longer try to go there Bc subjecting my children to a facility that clearly doesn’t care about its constituents is ridiculous.
A list:
-The bathrooms are dirty
-the air condition is always broken
-attitudes are horrible
-the playground is ALWAYS locked. When you ask can my children play in the playground, they say “oh it’s locked.” EVERY SINGLE TIME!
AOh and the door near the library is locked, so you have to walk aaaalll the way around to the other door.
-The handicap doors don’t work either.
-Ooooh and i almost forgot to mention they refuse to provide chairs to the families. Pregnant women, parents with babies, etc have to sit on the floor. When you ask why, they say “Bc people steal the chairs.” Really?
In order to be treated right, you have to drive 35 min away to a pool that is not in a Black neighborhood. So sad.
*They would NEVER treat the constituents around Wilson pool like...
