A few years ago, I found myself in one of the most difficult situations of my life. I was stranded with no money, no ID, and no way home after a friend’s car with my wallet inside it was stolen in Carson City. With nothing but the clothes on my back, I had to walk all the way from Carson City to Reno along old Highway 395.
Along that long, hot, exhausting walk, I came across the Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory, and I’ll never forget the kindness I was shown there. I walked in just hoping to use the restroom and maybe get a drink of water, and not only did the gentleman there let me use the restroom without hesitation, but he also gave me three glasses of ice water and some free samples of chocolate to take with me on my journey.
Even though I had no money and looked rough from walking for miles, he treated me with dignity, respect, and warmth. I never felt like a burden or unwelcome in any way.
It’s been over four years now, and I’ve never forgotten that act of compassion. I never caught his name, but if he or anyone from the business sees this thank you🙂🙃🙂. That moment of kindness meant more than I can say.
Places like this remind you that there are still good people in the world. If you’re ever near this place, support them not just for their great candy, but for the heart behind...
Read moreI moved to Reno years ago, and I'm so mad at myself that I hadn't stopped in here sooner! First visit was about a week ago, and a very sporadic drive down; Mom and I just hopped in the car one day and were off to the candy factory. So happy that we did. They have a huge selection of.. everything sweet. Our Christmas was late because of the overdue weather we were having that week, but it gave us time to go grab some sweets to have laying around when everyone did show up. We ended up getting a bunch of taffy which was not only more fresh, but also more flavorful than some of the ones I've had in Virginia City in my opinion. Splurged on roasted nuts, and fudge also which were all delicious, and fresh as well! Have to say that the Beer Brittle was the highlight for everyone at 'Christmas' though! Very unique, and flavorful! We had the stout brittle, and I can guarantee you I'm going back as soon as possible to stock up on both kinds. We wanted to check out the building and the big ol miner a little more but it was really cold, and the snow was deep already, so we figured we'd wait until spring to adventure around - We were able to check out a beautiful sunset from the warmth inside though; They really have an incredible view. Great staff. Huge selection. Awesome Experience! Will...
