Hoelcks florist — Local services in Waterford

When sending flowers to my mother for her birthday it was imperative that the arrangement relay how important and special she is to us. I wasn't demanding, i just had a couple simple request...."please include hints of blue (an inside joke between my mom and my son), carnations (the first flower my dad ever gave my mom 50 years ago), and just large beautiful flowers that relayed our love for her." My only other request, which seems like a no brainer and not even something I should have to worry about questioning, was that it be delivered on her birthday, 5 days from when I was placing the order, the date I paid for them to make happen. Unfortunately by noon time that day I was in panic mode as no flowers were in site. When I finally called the "online floral shop," to question where the arrangement was, they stated that due to covid and the impending snow storm coming they were unable to find a local florist and therefore would not to be able to deliver the flowers "to my moms work" till the following day....saturday(a day she doesn't even work)! I could get in to the words that went through my head and the ridiculousness of their excuse but it's not even worth it considering I ordered a week in advance and it was still sunny and beautiful and the snow was not due to start till 24 hours from then.....when they "could" deliver the flowers!?!!?? It was flat out absurd and they clearly forgot. Regardless, I now was in panic mode because if there was any year where my mom deserved the biggest best floral arragement, it was most certainly this year! I called one of my friends crying and she relayed to me to try calling Hoelck's. I did just that, not expecting much considering it was noon time on a Friday but.... incredibly after talking to one the nicest people on the other end of the line....a human, with a heart, who also happened to be local florist, she verified she would make it happen!!!! I was apprehensive to get specific when she asked what I was looking for because at this point I was already grateful just for the fact she would be able to deliver my mom her birthday flowers. But so I mentioned my couple of ideas and the reasons behind them. I kid you not less than one hour later(and I believe the shop is 20 min away from my moms work) the most PERFECT BEAUTIFUL BOUNTIFUL ARRANGEMENT was delivered to my mom! I knew this because she called me crying saying how perfect hey were and how she loved all the "inside joke/meaningful flowers" that were in there. Later when my dad saw pics of the flowers and joked he was clearly going to have to retire his ususal florist and up his game. I want to stress, while these flowers were incrediable and arranged perfectly what really made me put this post up was the fact that this year hasn't been kind to my family. So to have someone go above and beyond, when we weren't even regulars, to deliver on such short notice and to also listen to my stresses over this past year and why these flowers were so important is the "REAL" reason behind this post. I am beyond thankful to Hoelcks for the arrangement, for dealing with a crazy panicked daughter, and for making and delivering in record time! People are always so quick to complain and often take for granted when others go out of their way to make things happen, esepcially when they do not have to! It's very unfortunate that is how things are these days but its also for that reason, that I found it necessary to take time to write such a lengthy post. My hope is to to get across all the reasons why you should get your flowers here instead of elsewhere. I now know I have no reason to go anywhere else! This shop has a five star rating for a reason!! They go above and beyond for each order, everyone in the area knows this!! I want to share my experience quick because it is something that needs to be shared. December 19th my father in-law passed away, unexpectedly. Our family is very close and this was one of the hardest things we've had to navigate. We ordered from an online flower company which reassured us multiple times through emails and phone calls that everything would be perfect and on time. On the day the flowers were to be delivered, three hours before,they cancelled through a spam email!! I wouldn't even have noticed if I had I not called.... My sister's birthday is today 3/21/2021. I live in Steamboat Springs, Co. I meant to call a florist in Waterford, Ct. on Friday. Didn't happen. Got a hold of one at 2:30 my time 4:30 Waterford time. I had called 2 other places that said they were in Waterford, but were not. Big online flower places. Really wanted to spend my money locally in Waterford.
