There’s a foot washing station if you decide to venture out, but we didn’t use it as the restrooms were closed and I was unsure if it were due to the extreme drought. The Salt Flats were on my bucket list of things to see, and this rest stop didn’t disappoint.
My husband and I spent the night here catching up on a bit of sleep during our trip back East, and we only had one trucker use his trailer brakes, and the scowls he got was enough for me 🤣
The little havens that you park your car beneath are absolutely adorable, but also practical to protect yourself from the unrelenting dry heat and sun. The overlooks are gorgeous and a bit sad, knowing the state of the lake. Visit before you can’t anymore, and stop here on the way....

But don't dream of parking on the eastbound side, and running across the freeway to see the westbound rest area. You will die.
To get to the west side of Interstate 80, Dr Eastbound past the no u-turn Crossings. Find a place where the gravel is hard, and there are a few Dirt Roads connecting East and westbound 80, and cut across. It might not be completely legal, but it definitely beats the 80...
