Stunning views and incredibly clean restrooms, even though they’re port-a-potties. I’ve never been inside such an immaculately clean portable restroom - so much so, that they looked brand new.

There’s a foot washing station if you decide to venture out, but we didn’t use it as the restrooms were closed and I was unsure if it were due to the extreme drought. The Salt Flats were on my bucket list of things to see, and this rest stop didn’t disappoint.

My husband and I spent the night here catching up on a bit of sleep during our trip back East, and we only had one trucker use his trailer brakes, and the scowls he got was enough for me 🤣

The little havens that you park your car beneath are absolutely adorable, but also practical to protect yourself from the unrelenting dry heat and sun. The overlooks are gorgeous and a bit sad, knowing the state of the lake. Visit before you can’t anymore, and stop here on the way....

The eastbound Bonneville Salt Flats rest area is just a rest area. There is a viewing platform from which you can see the Salt Flats on the other side of the freeway. But don't dream of parking on the eastbound side, and running across the freeway to see the westbound rest area. You will die.

To get to the west side of Interstate 80, Dr Eastbound past the no u-turn Crossings. Find a place where the gravel is hard, and there are a few Dirt Roads connecting East and westbound 80, and cut across. It might not be completely legal, but it definitely beats the 80...

We drove across the country FAST. Didnt have time to take detours or see cool things along the way. Thats what made this stop so special for my wife and I. It was so cool! Got to get out and walk along the "snowy" salt shores of the flats. Took a lot of cool photos and ran around in the wind. The facility was clean and felt safe. It was all around just a lot of fun. So glad we got to see something special on our drive, really was a great memory we got to make together. <3 Would recommend.
