I visited the Golden Nugget today with 2 of my girlfriends, all of us young 20s women, and we had a very upsetting experience with one of the vendors.
When we arrived, we spent some time roaming a chit chatting with all the vendors. Everyone was polite and offered help! It’s a great flea with lots of cool booths, we all 3 commented multiple times about how we would like to visit when more stalls are open!
However, toward the end of our visit we rounded back to a jewelry stall toward the entrance. We were all 3 browsing but one of my friends was more interested in actually making a purchase. A tall older gentleman with white hair came to booth and said hello, he was polite to us initially, asking how we were doing and if we needed any help. We politely responded no, and continued to look. As we were looking, he made a comment to my one friend interested in the jewelry about making sure she put everything back, to which she responded she would. He then stood by us for a moment and continued to watch, which made us a bit uncomfortable. When my friend was finally ready to pay, he then snatched the items out of her hands and said “you had an attitude with me earlier, so no.” He then shoved his way between my two friends and aggressively put the jewelry back on the rack, knocking other things off. He continued on to say that my friend was rude to him, and that she needed to learn to respect her elders. She apologized and we were all so in shock and confused that we started to walk away. He continued to make comments as we walked down the hall, he said “Go get educated”, to which my friend said “will do,” trying to quickly leave and end the conversation. The older man replied “I highly doubt that,” while continuing to follow us down the hallway, and out of the building. We were all so in shock and confused because we seriously do not know what we could have done to offend him so much to warrant that reaction and refuse to let my friend purchase something. Even with him following us down the hallway and into the parking lot made us feel no longer welcome in the building.
Over all we are just very confused and upset considering this otherwise seems the be a great...
Read moreI was referred to Connie’s Golden Shoppe by someone at a local antique store because I mentioned I collect Pyrex. I was so excited when I arrived and saw the hundreds of Pyrexs she had! I picked a bowl and meant to ask the owner the price as there were no signs and only a handful of items had price stickers. My friend was holding the bowl as the owner was nowhere to be seen and I was still browsing.
Finally a woman appears and asks if anyone needs help. I turn and ask the price for the bowl my friend was holding for me, and she immediately barks “we don’t separate sets!!!!”. I said “oh, this isn’t a set, it was with other similar bowls but not in a set” (I’m a collector, I know which bowls go together). She said “yes it’s a set it comes in a set!” I said “I know traditionally it does, but you don’t have it in a set here.” She said “oh, we’ll SOMEONE must have separated it.” She grabbed the bowl out of my friend’s hand and put it back on the shelf (I never found out how much it was).
We left after she killed the vibe, but I saw a nice casserole dish I recognized as a somewhat rare Pyrex. However, it was dinged up and the top was severely dishwasher damaged. I asked how much and she gave me an absurd price for a piece in that condition. Same story with 3 other pieces there. She said it was her life’s collection and everything was hard to come by so that’s why her prices were what they were. Honestly, don’t waste your time with her. You’ll find cheaper pieces in better condition on eBay and won’t have to deal with such an...
Read moreI had a fantastic experience at Golden Nugget this Sunday and wanted to share. I actually went on Saturday as a shopper first. It was my first time back in probably 12 years or so, but I used to go a lot in the early 2000s. I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to getting a table and trying to sell but after my trip on Saturday I was sold. The owners were so nice, they answered all my questions and were very friendly. The other vendors were also all so friendly and genuinely seemed like they enjoyed chatting about old books and collectibles. So I woke up at 4:30AM Sunday and went to my table that I booked the night before online (very easily I might add). I setup and by 6:30AM already had enough money in sales to pay for my table. I stayed almost the whole day, until about 2:30PM. My "neighbors" were awesome and we genuinely had fun chatting and looking at each other's stuff all day. Every single customer was friendly. Maybe I just got lucky, but literally every person who came up was my kind of people. It was crowded but well organized. I ended up doing ok on sales, and I learned a lot for next time. But overall I ended up swapping lots of great stories, met some amazing people, had some great food, and got to spend my Sunday doing what I love. I can't recommend enough that you go here either as a customer or a seller. It's just an awesome place. And because of its proximity to Lambertville/New Hope, it can easily be a stop that's part of a larger day with lots of fun things to do!...
