Fast forward two years... We engaged Patrick Sutton of the Billiard Barn to bring our thirty-plus-year-old Brunswick pool table up to today's standards. We told him we were looking to replace the original "slow" cloth with a fast cloth, get new rubber rails, and also wanted new leather pockets, as the original ones had gotten stiff with age. He visited our home to check the table over, and brought along a chart on which cloth samples had been attached, so we could see and feel what was available and how it might compliment the existing wood of our table and the room overall. While we debated the alternatives, he disassembled the rails and pockets, leaving only the slate top and legs, and took the existing rail mounts back to his shop. About two or three weeks later, he called to let me know he had gotten the new rails, as well as the new cloth (from Belgium), had already recovered the rails, and could return to our home in a day or two to complete the on-site work. Once he arrived, he got right to it, removing the old cloth and the dozens of staples that held it on, then made a thorough inspection of the bare slate bed. He noticed some minute vertical inconsistencies between the three individual slate pieces, corrected them using wedges, then used a fast-setting filler to eliminate any horizontal gaps. The top was then vacuumed and washed down to eliminate any latent dust before he painstakingly recovered the slate with the new imported cloth. He then attached the rails and integral pockets, making sure the rails were aligned properly before final tightening. He finished by stapling the new leather pockets in place, and giving the table a thorough lookover. Afted he finished his work, the table had not just been retrofitted, it has been transformed into a beautiful, state-of-the-art quality pool table, capable of not just meeting our needs for recreation but hosting a professional billiard tournament. In our minds it was a totally new table, much better than it had ever been, even when brand, spanking new. Patrick is not just an amazing technician, he is an artist who loves his craft and performs it with a high degree of professionalism. My initial contact with Patrick was through email and concerned the availaiblity of a Brunswick Anniversary pool table. He stated that he had the model that I was looking for, would be able to restore it for me, and would personally deliver it to me (I live over 600 miles from his business). From that point on throughout the restoration process, Patrick took the time to not only answer any questions that I had, but answered them in such detail that he put my mind at ease. When the pool table was complete and brought into my home, I was blown away with the amazing job that Patrick did in restoring this 65 plus year old pool table. The time, care, and detail Patrick took to bring this pool table back to life left me speechless. In addition to the quality of the product produced by the Billiard Bard, Patrick and his assistant (Leah), are very personable and special people. They were pleasant to talk to, wonderful in assembling the pool table, and walking me through how to maintain this beautiful table. They not only gained a customer, but also gained a friend. I am not a person who normally posts reviews online, but the total experience (the pool table and the people) made me want to write this review. As others mentioned, if I could give a 10 I would! Patrick was great with communication. Very prompt replies and answered all my questions. Price was lower than other quotes I received. Delivery day was scheduled promptly after Patrick received the table. Patrick & Leah did excellent with the install! I cannot stress enough how impressed I was. Our basement has a tight 90 degree turn down the stairs and they had no problem with it and never even touched the walls. I came down about half way through the install and started talking to them and didn't stop until they left. Such great people! They pay very close to attention to detail.
