Norris Porcelain Basin — Local services in West Yellowstone

This was amazing! This and the back basin are well worth it.

We parked on the road in the overflow parking. It added about 2 mins of walking.

All trails are flat and well maintained. They have a large amount of traffic, particularly at overlooks and areas near the parking. Once you get on the walks it's not as crowded.

This is not an eyes-only excursion: the sounds of the geothermals range from hissing, spurting,and bubbling. The smell is that of sulfur. The colors and textures are amazing. Between the two areas you have woods, barren area, desert-looking landscapes, and everything is dotted with the columns of steam.

This place is worth a couple hours of walking around.

Through the little museum thing you can wander down the hill. Go right for the panoramic view, then you’ll have to turn back. Left will take you around about a half mile + loop of stuff you should see.

It connects to the back basin, I recommend stopping at the little bookstore for water bottles if you need.

Parking is atrocious. On the other hand I got a spot right up front so…there were plenty of RV and bus spots in their own separate parking area. Just be prepared to spend extra time finding a spot. Or let dad...

Porcelain Basin is one of the most dynamic and diverse basins in the world. There are all sorts of features. From hot springs like Congress Pool to geysers like Constant and Whirligig. I recommend doing this at dusk.
