Sylvia African Hair Braiding — Local services in Westland

Hello everyone, I think it’s time for my review….. I went to Sylvia hair braiding salon for KNOTLESS BOHO BRAIDS due to previous co workers that had their hair braided. So I said why not let me try it ☺️ went to the salon the hair stylist greeted me well with a smile and ready to go to braid my hair… upon braiding my hair. One of the ladies her name was (Auntie) braided the front part of my hair. In the meantime when she was braiding my hair I told her there were braids that needed to be redone because they are starting to feel like French braids not like knotless and I couldn’t move the braids freely like I wanted to. She stated “sorry with a smile” and kept braiding. In the meantime the other lady joined and started to do the back part of my hair. Let me remind you I told Auntie a couple of times about the French braids that needed to be freely moving and she just ignored. So I decided let me talk to the lady who I thought was in charge to tell her what was going on so it can be fixed. I started to express my concern and auntie interrupted and said “ you should tell me I am the braided” I said ok and voiced my concerns to her again. In the meantime auntie and her people started to snicker and laugh and talked about me in their language… I told them “ this is my money and I wanted to be done right I could see if you guys were paying for it but unfortunately you are not”. After that no more side conversation 😉 After awhile the braiders started packing up and ready to go and leave the shop and this time it was around 9pm. So Auntie fixed about 2 to 3 braids and ready to leave….. I told her wait… there’s more! She said “Ahh I don’t have time I have to go before I miss my ride! I said no problem I will come back tomorrow so it can be fixed. One braided approached me and said “ this is how the knotless braids are suppose to be” I looked at her and said no! I have gotten plenty of knotless and they are knot suppose be forming as a French braid.”The other braided finished up and we left the shop and yes I already paid mid service…. Next day returned after working and went to the shop. I seen Sylvia the owner and sweet Auntie. Auntie had to fix the braids that were French braids so I showed her all the braids… and she thought it was probably just 3 braids but no it was at least 10 or more. Now Sylvia had to come over and assess the damage and pointed out all the braids that needed to be fixed. Ahhh now Auntie was not pleased she had to fix it…. That smile left 😌 the correction was verified by the Owner. Now don’t get me wrong the hair looked lovely after 3 more hours of sitting in the chair. So now… I see another issue the boho is not installed properly. When I tell you my hair looks like I went everywhere around the world within a week… it does and it looks old like I had it in for a while and I haven’t 😞. This was my first time here.. I had a 10am appointment today, they didn't start on my hair until 10:25 because they was eating. I didn't get finished until almost 5pm. They spray you with some type of disinfectant when you walk through the door without you even really knowing. They say they spray you because of the pandemic but my issue is only one of them was wearing a mask the right way, the other one didn't have one on, and the three others wasn't wearing their mask the proper way. I wanted goddess box braids/bohemian braids and I cannot tell you what's in my head. At first they wasn't putting in enough curly hair then it was too much curly hair then it wasn't enough. The back of my hair have too much curly hair and the front doesn't have enough . I told the lady not to put so much in the front because she was putting in too much at first by putting the curly hair on every braid. I showed them pictures of how I wanted it..Also my braids in the back is smaller than the ones in the front. My braids are neat this is just not how I wanted my hair to look. I had to cut some of the curly hair out. Also the old lady got mad because I told her my hair wasn't done right. She is the person that did the front. This was the one on ford rd. In 2022

If you are a fan of a rush job and big parts this is the spot for you. My parts are way too big and different from front and back. I should have followed my first mind and went to the city. I could have gotten better braids, service and price for what i spent today. These braids is not going to last long. I should have known better when they didn't have the color i wanted and tried to get me to get the color on the bottom. So the lady went to the beauty supplto to tlget the 350 i wanted. Plus the have a sign posted saying tips are required due to the quality of their work. 200 for mid-back and gave my bra- strap. They need to do better and their quality sucks. Sadly i wont be back. I oly tried them cause im trying to find a shop by my house. If you need a good shop go to Diamond in detroit. Ill be sticking with them...

Took over 7 hrs for style that normally takes 4 hrs max. Also, couldnt give me same exact style I literally just had bc they couldnt add hair to my thin hair for a few braids to start with french braids to keep out of my face and be a cute style. Just plain box braids with no style that I normally get, and like, and get compliments on. So disappointed, should have gone back to the other less than shop to tolerate their unprofessionalism, rudeness, and meanness. Dangit, really displeased this time. I guess I need to leave my immediate area to find capable and nice braiders to help with my difficult hair. I was so hopeful when I noticed the shop, did a uturn to stop by the day before to foreshadow my patronage the next morning - they didnt even recognize me or acknowledge that part. Then, I witnessed a lady walk in, say she wanted her hair braided into a ponytail, and they stopped her short and said no openings. Didnt offer a future appt, but turned her away, spoke in their native language and giggled. I was offended for the mid-age lady who just left. Apparently too much business, I thought to myself. What a shame...

Thanks for the reply, Sylvia, really appreciate it. I wish I were mistaken. It was the new location on Merriman. Yes, I loved the music and movie selection while there, thank you for that. But, yes I came in at 9:33am and left after 4pm. My braids are mid-length, definitely not long, as I was advised it would be too much stress on my hair. The braiders, Bebe and Auntie, seemed to try to be nice to me, which was nice. I believe you were in, doing braids in the first chair when the lady walked in and was turned away, although i'm not certain who spoke to the lady. And those who did my hair did speak in another language as well as English, even took a phone call conducted in another language while braiding my hair. I don't mind but that happened. Just really threw my day off and I still have to figure style everyday since I couldn't get the style I...
