The Brandywine River has an East and West Branch that are pretty long in themselves, but they merge into one at a point south of West Chester, PA. One of the most fun things people do on this Creek is kayaking and canoeing. Now that the weather is warmer, every weekend you'll find clusters of cars parked upstream and clusters of cars parked Downstream. They use these vehicles to manipulate their canoe or kayak so that they can get back to their vehicle once they've completed their Journey. It really is a nice thing to do on a hot Summer's Day. You can get out of your canoe or kayak and take a swim, you can take coolers with drinks and food and make a day of it. You can take one hour trips or you can take four hour trips or anything in between. From what I've read, it's not advisable to eat fish caught in the Brandywine. Unfortunately in the 1970s and Prior, there was no trash collection in the rural areas; people thew what they could not burn into the Brandywine River. About two years ago I pulled a silver butter knife and a silver spoon right out of the bank of the Brandywine. Unfortunately, you can still find places where there are dishes, pots and pans, pottery, and broken glass, so if you're ever on one of these trips wear some type of "River shoes". I'm not saying it's all over the place but more in the northern reaches of the East or the West Branch. I certainly did not want to ruin it for you. It is much better today than it used to be because people like me pull that stuff out when...
Read moreIt really depends on where you are, but I believe the best way to get to Brandywine Creek is via the Brandywine Creek State Park in Delaware. The expectation-to-reality brandwidth is the narrowest through this route. Park your car in the spacious parking spot and just walk over to the creek through one of the several trails in the State Park in under 20 minutes.
I wouldn't try to fish or boat on the creek waters. The waters are too shallow in most place. Though you can have a go at it if you really want to. It's good, instead, to kill a warm afternoon by the...
Read moreIt would be a 5 star, but it's just so dirty. People fill this place with litter. I always bring a bag with me while going out on adventures like this, to pick up what I can. This was just so much.
My boyfriend and I had an awesome time on this, except for thinking that we could paddle upstream on our kayaks back to the car. Oops, thank goodness for the nice people out in the water about 3 hours of a float downstream who gave us a ride to our car and then helped us load the kayaks back into it. They were awesome! Definitely a great time and a hilarious story to...
