SUPERVALU — Local services in Winona

About the only place in Winona that you can purchase fresh meats and vegetables, which are usually as reasonable as anywhere else. Sometimes you can even get them cheaper than larger grocery stores if you catch them on a good sale. However, it's the type of place you really have to watch price tags - one item may be a typical or even low price -, but then right next to it - something at 2x or 3x the price of somewhere like Family Dollar or Walmart. I have absolutely paid nearly $8.00 for a jar of Mayonnaise here.

The deli has generally good quality foods, but again, usually very high priced, even for pre-prepared deli items.

We also had a situation where my wife had purchased two heads of lettuce, got home and halfway through cooking and realized that they were rotten. Was quite inconvenient as we have to drive over 10 minutes to get back to the store - keep in mind we were half way through cooking and it's the only place within 30 minutes that would have it. We were asked to provide the rotten lettuce back, which felt a little accusatory. Luckily, we did bring it, but had to walk back out to my car and fetch the grocery bag of chopped slimy lettuce. Not too unusual I guess, but we're talking $3.00 - wouldn't have been the heist of the century if for some crazy reason we had been making this story of rotten lettuce up. Regardless, after proving that we did have some nasty lettuce, they kindly applied the price of the heads of lettuce towards a few bags of the chopped lettuce without any other issues and were reasonably kind about the...

Very nice very convenient grocery store. The employees are second to none. Always nice, very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the amount of product they keep in store is lacking. I have been in there many times that they were completely out of all brands of chocolate milk. Doesn't seem like a big deal until you have 3 screaming kids that love it and now have to drive 30 or more minutes to get to the next store for it. I use this as an example, it's not the only case. I know it's a small store with limited room and probably limited storage in the back but when I drive 15 minutes to get something it might be easier just go 30 the other direction and know can get what...
