The question was ask to speak on our childs Wolfeboro experience. We will begin with a very clear and definitive statement - Wolfeboro Camp Schoool for our child with simply transformative! Our child, who is talented, smart, bright, intelligent and all the rest has also been challenged with an ADD diagnosis, low self esteem and challenges with reading comprehension due in part to early challenges with the muscles in her eye's (surgically corrected -4th grade). Our daughter ended her 9th grade year of high school on academic probation but was trending in a positive direction.
We'll here comes Wolfebore - We set, as a family, our collective goals and expectations and after a period of adjustment to the outdoors our child excelled at a phenomenal rate within the three classes that were recommended for her to complete. Our child's study habits changed, our child's organizational skills were enhanced, our child's academc focus was fined tuned and most importantly our child's academic conidence skyrocketed to new heights.
Now came the excitment to return to school to apply what she learned - well it is still early but here is what we learned after completing Parents Weekend on October 19, 2019. Our child is carrying 4 A's and one B at the current time and will be removed from academic probation. Each teacher simply raved about our daughter's performance in each of her classes. In history, a subject that she has despised since she enter school - she now loves and was awarded the highest grade in her overall class for a writing assignement that was posted for all to review.
We recognize that it is still eaarly but just this past weekend our child stated that school is not hard if you prepare, organize your time and stay on top of all your assignments. Our daughter is a strong advocate for herself now and if she does not get it she immeidately reaches out to her teach for specific additonal information on what she did not get. Our daughter has become a leader in the classroom and a role model for other students. We credit this transformative change to Wolfeboro Camp School - If we could do it again we would but I am not sure that our child wants to be that up close and personal with the great outdoors like that again for awhile.
Thank you Wolfeboro for igniting our child's academic curiosity and unleashing our childs overall academic, social and all around confidence in her abilities to learn. Thank you, Thank you -...
Read moreOur daughter has attended the Wolfeboro Camp School 3 times in the last 4 years. Seems like a lot but she enjoys that she's there with several other students who return different years. She likes attending the smaller sized classes and take preview courses for her future Fall semester such as French, Math and Essay Writing(the experience and academic knowledge provides a confidence in the Fall and study methods to use throughout the year ). She participates in many on and off-campus events, helps as a server in the dining hall, and enjoys the activities and gatherings with new friends. She quickly adapted to tent life, daily schedule, study time, loves knowing she can try new things such as finally climbing a few mountains in New Hampshire or whatever each new Summer provides. Many of her achievements have been a wonderful surprise to us. She is positively challenged by WCS staff and participated in soccer, boating, talent show, and general activities - many students are rewarded during Morning Meeting for some of their successes. The staff, counselors and faculty are all very professional, respectful, encouraging, and supportive of the students. The faculty also provide weekly comments and/or grades so we can be kept aware of class progress. Also, we found the less our daughter called us, the busier and happier she was engaging with friends and activities. We were advised that might happen and it was a good thing. It's a great campus layout and Rust Pond is a beautiful setting. I want to add WCS is a great prep experience unlike any Summer program we've researched, especially to have this available before entering a boarding school for the first time. Our daughter was glad she did for the academic experience and social interactions and can't wait to return again to enjoy being around so many good people....
Read moreMy son attended this school over the summer and I have grave concerns on the gross mishandling of a medical emergency the school admittedly recognized but then failed to get medical attention for my son in a timely manner. The head of school made the decision that the medical emergency could wait and placed my son in a detention rather then sending him to the hospital for medical care. After several hours of a detention they transported him to the hospital and made no effort to contact me or supply the treating hospital with the proper medical records so the hospital could know what medication he took on a daily basis leaving the danger of a drug reaction. The hospital contacted me about the emergency situation only after my son gave the nurse my name and phone number, the school withheld that information from the hospital in attempt to hide what they had done. Wolfeboro called me over three hours after the emergency started giving me false symptoms and lied about what had transpired in an effort to cover up their failure to get him to the hospital in a timely manner. The following morning after the hospital returned my son to the school they refused to administer his medication against a doctors order. The head of school verbally apologized and stated to me "luck was certainly on our side that night and thankfully he will recover". The school is only interested in their reputation and money, they do not care about the children, nor do they feel any obligation to exercise good judgement for the wellbeing of the children in their care. If you r reading this take my advice and look elsewhere because placing your child in this school is leaving them in the hands of people that do not care about their safety...
