Just 8km from Ninh Binh town, I took a quick Grab ride out here and it was absolutely worth it. The place is breathtakingly beautiful—surrounded by lush limestone cliffs and tranquil water, it feels like a hidden paradise. The entrance tunnel is vibrant and colorful, setting the tone for what’s inside. There’s a peaceful path that loops around the lake, ideal for a scenic walk or cycling (you can rent single or tandem bikes onsite).
One of the highlights was discovering the small cave temple near the shops—definitely take a few moments to explore inside, it’s quiet and atmospheric. A 15-20 mins walk around the lake, the following point of interests can be discovered during the stroll: the pagoda, the citadel's stone door *which is closed indefinitely, not what you would expect from the photos, the cave & the exculpate well inside, fyi the name comes from a local legend, you can ask your tour guy for more detail.
A 200 climbs is required to reach the top, bewildering the visitors with a spectacular overall view of the place. However, the experience didn't justify the tickets price, which increased to 50k *compared to 20k before.
You can also rent a bicycle here, but aren't allowed to use your own bike, which is a classic tourist trap. Just avoid hassling with the locals if you really wanted to visit...

Classic tourist trap vibes , pay to park your bike then pay again to rent a bike for a little 2km walk around the lake
Also the online pictures are deceptive as the back door of the main pagoda are now permanently closed
The bike ticket collector also tried to hold our bikes hostage unless we could provide a rental ticket to LEAVE! despite the bikes having clear branding of the homestay they were from. So keep your parking ticket.
