The Arboretum Kalmthout is a botanical garden in Kalmthout, Belgium. It was started as a tree plantation by Charles Van Geert in 1856. Van Geert developed a collection of rare plants and trees before selling the property after 40 years to Antoine Kort. Kort added an extensive collection of Hamamelis to the nursery, but was forced to close his business due to the Great Depression of the 1930s. In 1952, the property was purchased by the brothers Georges and Robert de Belder, to save it from being destroyed by a housing development. At the site, the year that they purchased the property, the de Belder brothers founded the International Dendrology Society(IDS) to promote preservation and conservation of rare or endangered woody plants. Robert de Belder and his wife, Jelena de Belder-Kovačič worked together to build an internationally known arboretum, where plant enthusiasts could study and exchange knowledge and information about plants. In 1986 it became property of the Antwerp province and is now open to public.

Wat een mooie oase van rust. Zo exotisch en toch dichtbij. We waren hier een dag voor de vakantie, en het weer was schitterend. Ondanks dat er wat auto’s en fietsen op de parking stonden, kwamen we deze bezoekers niet tegen in het park van 12,5 ha. Een aanrader waard , voor oud en jong. De bereikbaarheid is prima, auto , spoor of fiets. De parking is gratis. Er kan zelf in een grote bol hangend aan een boom overnacht worden. Zoals al in andere reviews gelezen te hebben, jammer dat er geen uitgebreidere tekst bij de talloze en planten en bomen te lezen was. Uitsluitend een Latijns labeltje met een moeilijk uit te spreken naam erop. Na bezichtiging van de tuin hebben we een kleine lunch in het restaurant genoten. De keuze was erg beperkt, de kwaliteit was goed. Een iets uitgebreidere menukeuze zou op zijn plaats zijn. Dit laatste heeft absoluut geen afbreuk aan de kwaliteit van ons bezoek gedaan. Er is veel met de ECO gedachte gewerkt. Chapeau hiervoor. Onder andere Toiletten die met regenwater gespoeld worden. Ook de winkel is aangenaam en gezellig ingericht. Personeel zeer vriendelijk.

Very nice arboretum with a vast variety of bushes, flowers, and trees. In each period of the year, there are flowers blooming. Moreover, at one of the ponds, there is a typical Slovenian beehive. I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful and very nicely maintained arboretum.

Het arboretum van kalmthout is een botanische tuin met heel veel speciale naaldbomen alsook vooral tover hazelaars...naast heel veel andere mooie en speciale loofbomen. Het is prachtig aangelegd en je kunt er een mooie wandeling maken....even weg uit de drukte van het dorp en de drukke spoorlijn die dwars door het centrum van kalmthout gaat. Eigenlijk is deze tuin ieder seizoen van het jaar prachtig om te bezoeken. Wij zijn nu in januari naar de tover hazelaars gaan kijken. Er staan er ontzettend veel...eigen kruisingen alsook amerikaanse en chinese waar ze eigenlijk vandaan komen. Geel tot rood...grote en kleinere. De bloemengeur is enorm en terwijl je wandelt komen die bloemengeuren in je neus... prachtig om te zien en te ruiken. Een aanrader. Je kunt ook een versnapering krijgen aan de ingang.

Prachtig domein dat het hart van menig flora-liefhebber sneller doet slaan. Ook wie het geluk in de evidentie van het leven zelve zoekt, brengt hier glimlachend enkele uurtjes door. Zo lokt de variëteit aan bomen een verscheidenheid aan mooie mensen (en andere dieren) die ook de moeite waard zijn gelukzalig te observeren. Daarnaast heeft het arboretum een zeer gezellig winkeltje en cafetaria met eerlijke prijzen. Best aangenaam met enkele kilometers in de benen. Een ticket kost €7 voor volwassenen, maar is "gratis" met een museumpas. Kortom, Arboretum Kalmthout prijkt trots boven traditionele parken uit en is uw tijd meer dan de moeite waard. Trouwens, mag ik u met de woorden van Bart Moeyaert eens vragen: "Hoe klinkt een geluid dat enkel van jou is en de rest doet verstillen?" Go and find out!

Park your car near to the restaurant parking, it's free and behind the restaurant is also enough parking, from tourist guide office you can have some nice information over Kalmthout Grens Park Splendid place to do some walk Especially new 45 meters high tower is excellent to do the experience of the Park, Some places are not allowed to go and there are some instructions about it too there is also a small restaurant inside the park too

What a nice piece of nature! The park is actually situated in 2 countries, Netherlands and Belgium. Be careful during these Covid-19 measures to not cross the border! Parked near the Stappersven lake and took a small hike there. It's a gorgeous area but you have to be careful when you are by foot on the tarmac part, because there are many cyclists who drive super fast and not really seem to care about you.

Located in the border Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Belgium 🇧🇪. It is open borders due some areas are with metal wire fences as it is a protected wildlife reserves or privately owned.

Prachtig en fijn om te lopen. Alleen veel last van fietsers en van de week ook motorrijders. Staat aangegeven dat fietsen hier niet mag, maar er zijn veel mensen die mogelijk niet snappen wat ze lezen. Verboden voor fietsers is moeilijk. Gelukkig zijn er nu enkele touniquets zodat toegang moeilijker is. Ook zie ik steeds meer handhaving door de veldwachter. De frisse groene kleuren zijn erg mooi. U hond altijd aan de lijn, al de tijd dat U in het bos bent. De honden die aan de lijn zitten zijn niet lief als er los lopende honden lopen Een hond die los loopt is meestal geen goede luisteraar als er een ander hond aan de lijn zit. Vandaag een vos gezien die dood lag. Jammer we vragen ons af waar hij dood aan is gegaan. Volgens mijn zwager was het geen oud dier. Laat ons beschermen wat we graag zien..

Great 2-3 hours spent in nature and a little exercise for the knees :) Reservation and payment via their website without problems, large free parking lot. Nice staff - 2 young men. Instruction in English without problems. The possibility to go to the toilet at the beginning and at the end of the track. At the destination "Braschat old airport" there is plenty of free space/tables for a picnic, restauration, draft beer, toilets, a children's playground under trees. Possibilities for improvement: - trolley departures at different times (at least 15-minute intervals.) - notices on the route in English what is necessary to do - repair of some bicycles= unfortunately they didn't have numbers, and on the way back we had a broken one. -staff can be nicely dressed - sports uniform with company logo - Mount a small table on the front of the bicycles (space for water, a go-pro, ...) . - A stylish bell for every bike - bicycle numbering or to name :) - It would take a harder transmission to pedal...

This place is nice when the weather is good, it is about 5 km in a single ride to go from Kappellen to the military airport of Brasschaat. This is long enough, since the group bikes don't go so fast and it are not always good bikes (broken or too long chains etc.) However, the drinks at the café are nice and their is a beautiful garden to let your kids play in the playground.

Wij hebben vandaag gaan spoorfietsen van kapellen naar Brasschaat en terug uiteraard. Was zeer leuk wij hadden en groot model van fiets tot 12 personen maar waren zelf maar met 9 en de rit duurde enkel ongeveer 45minuten zeker aan te raden en hebben er van genoten. Enkel jammer dat je allemaal ongeveer rond het zelfde uur vertrekt waardoor je allemaal achter elkaar hangt en het tempo niet kan bepalen of en beetje gedwongen wordt om toch voort te doen. Kostprijs 100€ voor en grote fiets van 12personen

Wij deden in het verleden iets soortgelijks in de omgeving v Maredsous. Hier was de railbike lichter en er is plaats voor fietsers (om vooruit te komen) maar ook meerijders die zich aan een tafel kunnen zetten. Aan het einde van spoor kan je rusten en iets nuttigen in verschillende tavernes. De stoptijd bepaal je zelf. Daarna terug naar de startplaats (berg-af) Wij deden dit met familie en het was een fijne activiteit

Wat een superleuke activiteit om te doen met kinderen ! Een sterretje eraf aangezien op de aankoopbon duidelijk staat om een kwartier op voorhand er te zijn, maar degene die moet openen komt zelf te laat aan. Ook opletten. De ketting ging er soms af als je te snel trap. Gelukkig is mijn ventje heel handing. Alleen had ik er niet veel kunnen doen denk ik. wel zalig om eens gedaan te hebben !
