Hainan-Style Rice Noodles & Coconut Dessert in London 🍜🥥
Three Bowls – It's miles out of the way, but this place serves legit Hainan cuisine. Just don’t go if the Overground is on strike... (ask me how I know 😅) First time trying Boluo Fen (Hainan rice noodles)—the sweet-savory broth coats the silky noodles perfectly, topped with dried beef, pickled bamboo shoots, long beans, and peanuts. The flavors are layered and rich, though the sweetness might be too much if you’re not into that. The fish hotpot tasted just like grandma’s home cooking—simple but full of soul, with a broth so good you’ll want extra rice. And the Qing Bu Liang (coconut dessert)? Non-negotiable must-order. Originally planned to hit up more spots in Lower Clapton after Three Bowls—Lucky & Joy, Mambow, Hai Cafe, Uchi Bake were all on the list—but the fish hotpot + rice combo destroyed my appetite. Lower Clapton is low-key fascinating though—packed with Asian restaurants that look like they’re targeting middle-class white folks but somehow still taste authentic. Guess this is what gentrified authenticity looks like? 🤷♂️ Next time, I’ll try more… if I can handle the trek again. 😂 📍 Three Bowls, London Hot Take: The Qing Bu Liang is the perfect palate cleanser—refreshing, creamy, and just sweet enough.
