Indonesia, Yogyakarta | Rainbow Village at the Foot of a Volcano

🌈 Nepal Van Java: A village nestled at the base of Mount Sumbing in Indonesia. The volcanic eruptions have enriched the soil here, attracting settlers to farm the land. Terraced fields cascade down the volcano's slopes, with crops creating a vibrant rainbow of colors—a perfect harmony of nature and human culture. Flying a drone overhead reveals an absolutely breathtaking view. 🚗 Nepal Van Java was the final stop of our Yogyakarta trip. Our driver picked me up from the Hyatt at 6:30 AM, but we didn't arrive at the village until nearly 9 AM—just missing the best viewing time for Mount Sumbing. To see the volcano clearly, it's best to arrive around 7 AM, as fog typically rolls in by 9 AM. Since Yogyakarta is quite far from the village (a 5:30 AM departure is needed to arrive by 7 AM), I recommend staying overnight in nearby Magelang if you want to catch the sunrise view. 📚 Next to the village parking lot, there's a small restaurant where you can grab a bite, use the restroom, or fly your drone. From the parking area, a short climb leads to a viewpoint (entrance fee: 10,000 IDR). For those who prefer not to walk, motorbike tours (35,000 IDR per person) are available—they take you to two or three scenic spots, and the drivers even help with photos. Just be aware that they may not speak English, so a translation app comes in handy. 🏠 After the motorbike ride, I wandered through the village. The houses are painted in vibrant colors and decorated with intricate murals. The steep paths are quite tiring to navigate—I was especially impressed by the local women carrying heavy loads up and down the slopes (I certainly couldn't keep up!). Many villagers ride motorbikes to work in the fields. Everyone was incredibly friendly, often nodding and smiling when our eyes met. With few tourists around, the village felt authentically local, with only the viewpoint and motorbike tours being the two paid attractions. ☁️ By noon, I returned to the restaurant at the parking lot. A villager told me the fog might clear around 5 or 6 PM, so I decided to wait. After lunch, I sat on the restaurant's second-floor terrace, gazing at the misty landscape and letting my mind wander until the late afternoon. 🌋 Around 5 PM, the fog began to lift. I quickly launched my drone and was rewarded with a stunning view—the "window" of clear visibility lasted only about 20 minutes before the clouds closed in again. Moments after packing up the drone, rain began to fall—perfect timing for everything. 📚 Though I didn't get the clearest view of the volcano and couldn't fly the drone as much as I wanted, the experience was still unforgettable. That peaceful afternoon in the village became the most cherished memory of my trip. #Travel #Indonesia #Yogyakarta #TravelGuide #TravelDiary
