【City Walk Episode 5】Lyon: Unlocking the "Stomach of France"
Lyon, known as the "Gastronomic Capital of France", isn’t just rich in food culture—it also boasts a long history and charming street scenes. The real focus of this trip isn’t just the City Walk, but to rave about all the delicious food 😋 (Fun fact: Lyon is famous in France for its creative use of offal! If you’re a fan, you have to check out the recommended restaurants and markets at the end!!)m 🏞️ Two rivers run through central Lyon: the Rhône and the Saône, dividing the city into distinct areas. West of the Saône lies Fourvière Hill and the Old Town; the peninsula between the rivers is the city center; and east of the Rhône is the new district. 🏨 By chance, I booked a homestay in an old building directly opposite the City Hall, on the 2nd floor—perfect for views! Picture 2 shows the scene from the balcony, facing right onto… ⛲️ Lyon City Hall and Place des Terreaux. The square has a central fountain with an impressive bronze statue of four horses, truly spectacular. 🏠 Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) One of Europe’s largest and best-preserved Renaissance quarters. Wandering here feels like stepping back into the Middle Ages. Cobblestone lanes wind between colorful old houses and unique little shops 🏘️ 🏰 Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière Climb Fourvière Hill to reach this basilica—the best spot to overlook the entire city. From here, you can take in Lyon’s ,with the iconic "pencil building" standing out prominently~ hhhhh 🏛️ Odéon de Lyon Resembling an ancient Roman colosseum, this theater was built in the 2nd century AD and is indeed a precious relic from Roman times. 🏭 Place Bellecour Lyon’s largest city square and one of Europe’s biggest pedestrian plazas. It’s both a commercial hub and a popular gathering spot for locals. Sip a rich French coffee at a nearby café and soak up the lively, charming French vibe ☕ 【🍽️】 🐷 Le Bouchon des Filles (20 Rue Sergent Blandan, 69001 Lyon) Picture 6 Their signature main dish is pig intestine rolls—chopped offal wrapped into small rolls. Surprisingly, it’s not too gamey and quite tasty! They also have fish cakes, with a texture similar to fish tofu~ The staff recommended a Lyon-specific dessert, which was extremely sweet—just a layer of syrup on top 🤯 ☕ Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse (102 Cr Lafayette F, 69003 Lyon) This market is full of local vibe, with lots of bakeries and butchers! Don’t miss the iconic "Lyon sausage bread" (La Brioche aux Pralines or Saucisson Brioché)—it’s stuffed with sausage and meat jelly, with a rich, layered texture! 🇫🇷 Lyon truly lives up to its title as the "Stomach of France"—the food here is genuinely unique! #citywalk #food #Lyon #France #FranceTravel #FoodRecommendations #Europe #EuropeTravel #cityvibes #WheretoGoThisSummer
