【Haha’s Travel Diary】Memphis, Tennessee 🎵

This March, during spring break, I went on tour with my university choir 🎶, and our first stop was Memphis — a historic American city known for its pivotal role in civil rights and music, though it’s seen better days. Since most of our time was spent performing, we didn’t get to visit many famous spots, but here’s a little recap of the places we did explore! 🏠 Accommodation Since it was an official choir trip, our hotels were booked as a package through a travel agent. I’m not sure about the exact prices, but we stayed a bit outside the downtown area — apparently for safety reasons. 🚌 Transportation We had our own tour bus 🚍, so we didn’t use public transport. From what I could tell, public transit isn’t very reliable here. I’d recommend road-tripping, renting a car, or using ride-sharing if you’re traveling independently. 📍 Bass Pro Shop Pyramid A paradise for outdoor lovers — especially fishing! 🎣 (Yes, just fishing — no hidden meanings lol). This is the largest Bass Pro Shop in the U.S. and the 8th tallest pyramid in the world! Inside, there’s a hotel, an observation deck with a restaurant, and even an elevator to the top (ticket required 🎫). You can find almost anything here — food, clothes, gear. Their pork rinds are delicious — highly recommend! 🐖 📍 Stax Museum of American Soul Music Memphis is the birthplace and heart of many American music genres. Since I was traveling with the choir, of course we had to visit a music museum! 🎤 Normally admission is around $20, but we got lucky — it was Family Day, so we entered for FREE! 🆓 Inside, they screen a documentary on the origins of soul music 💿 and display stage outfits worn by legendary artists. 📍 Beale Street Kind of an “outdated” bar street — these days Nashville’s Broadway steals the spotlight. It’s right next to the Memphis Grizzlies’ arena. The street is lined with restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. It felt a little quiet and past its prime, but that also means lower prices — even drinks are cheaper! 🍻 Lots of places sell daiquiris here in tons of flavors — worth a try! (Bring ID if you want the alcoholic version 🪪) 🎸 Overall, Memphis feels like a great pit stop on a road trip. I’d recommend pairing it with a visit to Nashville (post on that coming soon! 😉). #Memphis #TravelUSA #SouthernUS #MusicCity #RoadTripVibes 🚗💨
