๐๏ธ Architecture Must-Visit - Querini Stampalia Foundation
๐โโ๏ธ Getting lost in the countless alleys of Venice, I probably stumbled upon the square in front of this foundation multiple times without realizing it. It was only later, upon checking Google, that I discovered it was the Scarpa Foundation I intended to visit. ๐ Architecture students in Venice inevitably encounter Carlo Scarpa, and the Querini Stampalia Foundation is one of his masterpieces. The iconic Scarpa Bridge pedestrian bridge has a sign at the end that reads: "You are not at the right entrance! But you have just crossed Carlo Scarpa's bridge. 'Built in one night' in 1963." ๐ธ There are so many materials and details inside that I, as an architect, felt like I could never capture them all in photos, so I decided to just soak in the experience. The small courtyard is beautiful, with concrete elements harmoniously integrated with the white marble portico in various ways, such as by using white aggregates and white stone for the terminal ends. Scarpa's sensitivity in material use is prophetic, and it's his greatest contribution to Venetian architecture. Brick, wood, glass, and marble are not only visible and tangible in his work but also evoke sounds, memories, and reveries. ๐ I enjoyed a cup of coffee in the courtyard. ๐ Most people come for the fame of Carlo Scarpa, which often overshadows the fact that the exhibits upstairs include masterpieces by the renowned Italian painter Bellini. ๐๏ธ The shop downstairs has a variety of related books, which I highly recommend. #Italy #MuseumsWorthVisiting #HonoringCarloScarpa #Architecture #ItalianArchitecture #ArchitectsMustSee #ArchitecturalDesign #ArchitectureTravelogue #ArchitecturalPhotography #Details
