🌶️ Baltimore Food | Lao Sze Chuan JHU Branch
Finally, a Chinese restaurant that could compete in the area! Located right around the corner from Kajiken Ramen. Though this spot has seen many closures (hope this one lasts!), the menu here is more simplified and Americanized compared to the Rockville flagship. 📍 Address: 3224 St Paul St, Baltimore, MD 21218 🅿️ Street parking only | Mostly American staff with U.S.-style service 🍽️ What We Ordered (2 people) 1️⃣ Scallion Egg Fried Rice ($9) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The standout dish! Huge portion, flavorful, and satisfying. Only downside: uses jasmine rice. Pro tip: Skip the plain rice ($1.50) and get this—leftovers lasted 3 meals! 2️⃣ Tibetan Cumin Lamb ($26) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ High-quality lamb with perfect fat balance, cumin-forward but slightly salty. Not for light eaters! 3️⃣ Braised Pork Belly ($22) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sweet, Dongpo-style sauce. Cleanly prepared with skin-on pork. Includes quail eggs (yum!). A few pieces were overly fatty, but decent value. 4️⃣ Five-Spice Fried Eggplant ($11) ⭐⭐ Not recommended: thick, hard coating makes it overly oily and bland inside. 💵 Price: ~$40+/person (we packed 1/3 leftovers). For fullness, $30-35 should suffice. 🎯 Final Thoughts: A hopeful addition to JHU’s food scene, but needs refinement to live up to the "Lao Sze Chuan" name. Will revisit after grand opening! #DMVFood #BaltimoreEats #DMVDining #ChineseFood #JHU
