⛰️ Juneau One-Day Travel Guide (Public Transport Version)

⛰️ Alaska’s Capital City Juneau – Mendenhall Glacier 🌧️ Woke up to drizzly rain in Juneau, so we waited for it to ease before heading out. If you’re arriving by cruise ship, I recommend taking a few photos at the top-deck swimming pool before disembarking—it’s less crowded early on, and the ship docked among misty mountains looks incredibly scenic 🚢🏞️. If you’re considering the tramway 🚠, you can catch it right at the port. That said, the views are arguably better from land, as the mountains near Juneau’s cruise docks aren’t very high. 🏔️ Mendenhall Glacier Around 10 AM, the light rain let up and we set out. The port area has many vendors offering tours and express shuttles to the glacier—it’s easy to book something last-minute. But if you’re only planning to visit Mendenhall Glacier without a helicopter tour 🚁, there’s really no need to join a guided group. Taking public transit is totally sufficient. Without a tour, you can even sleep in, enjoy a brunch, and take your time 😄. It’s only about a 10-minute walk from the port to Downtown Transit Center (depending on where your ship docks). Bus Route 8 to the glacier runs every half hour (e.g., 8:00, 8:30, etc.). Take Bus 8 from Downtown Transit Center to the stop at Dredge Lake Rd. The one-way fare is $2 💵—bring exact cash, as drivers don’t provide change. To return, catch the bus at the stop directly across the street. Some buses have charging ports, but it depends on the vehicle. Connectivity can be spotty along the way, so check Google Maps ahead of time or ask a friendly local for directions 🗺️. From the bus stop, it’s a 30-minute walk along the main road to Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The views are gorgeous 🏞️, and you’ll share the road with some cars and cyclists—just be cautious when crossing. 🌲 Nugget Falls Snow-capped glaciers, lush forests, and roaring waterfalls: Once you reach Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, two short trails are must-dos: Photo Point Trail and Nugget Falls Trail. Both are stroller-friendly and easy. We wrapped up and returned to downtown around 3 PM. Today’s total cost: $4 💰 Truth be told, Mendenhall Glacier has receded noticeably over time, but the waterfall nestled among the layered peaks remains breathtaking. #Alaska #Juneau #AlaskaCruise #AlaskaGlaciers #JuneauAK #Glacier #Travel
