Alaska Glacier Cruise | Summer Vacation with Rainbow Whales

Last summer, I embarked on Princess Cruises’ Alaska Glacier Route to witness glaciers and whales. Here’s my travel guide: 🛳️ Day 1: Departure – Princess Cruises’ Discovery Princess We boarded in Seattle, setting sail into a winter wonderland. The Glacier Route is one of the most breathtaking and ecologically pristine itineraries, perfect for nature lovers and adventurers. Ports of Call: Juneau Skagway Glacier Bay National Park Ketchikan Victoria The ship was luxurious, offering gourmet dining, expert lectures, theater shows, and panoramic decks. The onboard info wall was super helpful! 🐳 Day 2: Juneau – Glaciers & Whales Juneau, Alaska’s rainy capital (300+ rainy days/year!), demands flexibility. Must-Do Activities: 1️⃣ Mendenhall Glacier Join a tour or take a shuttle to the park. Two iconic spots: glacier viewpoint and Nugget Falls (hike required). 2️⃣ Goldbelt Tram ($55) Scenic ride to mountain-top shops, a theater, and trails. Pro tip: Skip if rainy or crowded (we did!). 3️⃣ Whale Watching Tour (~$200) Saw humpbacks AND orcas breaching! Warning: FREEZING on deck—wear gloves, hats, and brace for waves! 🌊❄️ 4️⃣ Whale Park (Optional) 20+ min walk, mediocre views. Only go for photos. Key Tips: ☔ Pack rain gear + umbrella! ⏳ Time management is critical—glacier/whale tours are 30+ mins from port. Don’t miss the ship! 💰 Haggle! Avoid the first tour booth; compare prices at the plaza kiosks. (To be continued...
