🏛️ Kolumba Museum | Zumthor's Architecture on the Ruins of Cologne
🎨 The Kolumba Art Museum is one of the few museums I've seen that's built on top of ruins, second only to the Acropolis Museum in Athens. The museum stands on the Gothic church ruins in the heart of Cologne, symbolizing the near-destruction of the city during World War II. 🏗️ When I first saw the case study of the Kolumba Museum, I was deeply attracted by the contrast between the ruins and the newly built walls. This is also a hot topic in European historical architecture: how to integrate new construction with the preservation of buildings. The double-layered translucent brick facade is the most stunning part of the entire building. As you enter this area, you can see rays of light filtering through the walls into the interior, creating a quiet and solemn atmosphere that seems to form a small universe tracing history within this space. 🌟 The atmosphere of the entire building is exceptionally well-crafted, with the collision of wood colors and brick concrete, and the interplay of daylight and dark rooms. Every day in Cologne is a shout-out to Zumthor. It's a bit blissful to see the Fire Church Bruder-Klaus-Feldkapelle and the Kolumba Museum in one go. #MuseumWorthVisiting #ArchitecturalSpacePhotography #UrbanExplorationPlan #Cologne #CologneGoodSpots #KolumbaMuseum #PeterZumthor #Zumthor #Germany #Architecture
