🏛️ Mérida, Spain | City of Roman Ruins
✅Though less famous than Barcelona or Madrid, Mérida—one of Spain's 15 UNESCO World Heritage cities—boasts the country's highest concentration of Roman ruins. ✅Founded 2,000 years ago by Emperor Augustus himself, this city was built atop ancient Roman remains, and its entrance still proudly displays the iconic Capitoline Wolf statue, symbolizing Rome's legendary origins. 💤Since we were passing through, we briefly visited some key landmarks: 🌉 Roman Bridge – The longest surviving Roman bridge, still in use today (pedestrians only). 🏰 Mérida Castle – A historic fortress blending Roman and Islamic architecture. ⛩️ Temple of Diana – A remarkably preserved Roman temple complex. 💦 Los Milagros Aqueduct – An awe-inspiring ancient hydraulic marvel outside the city. 💡 Travel Notes Arriving at 9 AM, we found the town still waking up. By chance, we stumbled upon a Chinese-run TABACOS shop where the friendly owner not only recommended locally beloved chocolates 🍫 (which turned out to be amazing!) but also shared insider tips on Mérida’s hidden food gems. #SpainTravel #WorldHeritage #RomanArchitecture
