🏙️🚇 Place Rogier Reimagined (EL Croquis 204)

Brussels, BELGIUM | 2006-2019 | Competition Winner 🏆 Like Nørreport and Schumann Square, this project tackles transit-centric public spaces. Once a plaza fronting Brussels-North Station, Place Rogier was relocated north due to infrastructure—but it’s still a hub! 🌐🚄 The Challenge: A major metro station underground + bus transfers above = vertical flow… but no soul. 😔🚶♂️ Solution: 4 Bold Moves 💥 1️⃣ Sunken Courtyard ☀️🌱: Carved from metro infrastructure, it floods light into subway levels and a subterranean events hall. Connects metro/parking entrances—all in one spot! 🌍🔗 2️⃣ 3D Circulation Core 🛗🚶♂️: Stairs + escalators + elevators + skybridges = seamless flow. Underground shops reorient toward the courtyard, with redesigned tunnels to a shopping mall. 🛍️💫 3️⃣ Pedestrian Promenade 🚶♀️🌳: North facade features a walkway with terraces, seating, and greenery. Buses/taxis only—no cars! 🚫🚗 4️⃣ Material Magic 🌑🌕: Promenade: White concrete + pebble inlays. Plaza: Dark basalt. Minimalist yet inviting! 🖤🤍 While the plaza feels spacious, the promenade adds warmth. A transit hub transformed into a vibrant urban stage! 🎭✨ #Architecture #UrbanDesign #ELCroquis #PublicSpaces 🏙️🌿
