🍽️ Traditional Lyonnaise Bouchon Recommendation - Chez Paul
I was surprised to find that Geneva is less than two hours away from Lyon by car, so why not take a day trip! 🚗 Since Lyon is known as the capital of traditional French cuisine (most famous French chefs come from Lyon), the important agenda must be... spending three hours on a traditional Lyonnaise lunch! To avoid tourist traps, I spent half a day choosing and ended up chatting with four Lyonnaise grandfathers at the next table, proving my choice was wise 😉 (the kind who knows how to eat and loves to eat, haha). They said this is the "only" remaining "vrai bouthon" around here. The menu is a set menu excluding drinks, so you just order drinks and choose your main course when you sit down. For appetizers, there are 4 types, and for desserts, 3 types, served in large bowls/portions with free flow - a first for me, which is quite generous and Lyonnaise Bouthon 666, I appreciate it. 📋 Appetizer?: While sipping on some wine 🍷 and waiting for our dishes, we were first served a small plate of saucisson dry sausage, a large jar of cornichon pickles, and of course, bread. What does this mean? 😏 Appetizers: Lentilles (small lentil salad) with coriander seeds and beetroot (even I, who doesn't like beetroot, thought it was delicious 😋) - Cocos salads - Pig's nose salad. Main Course: I ordered the braised ox tongue, which was super thick, super tender, and two huge pieces - so satisfying... so full... My companion had the fried beef tripe, which was also excellent. Dessert: My favorite was the red wine stewed prunes (delicious! Ate 7 of them angrily), then crème caramel and compote de pomme (French apple puree) - we waddled in and waddled out, ready to walk off the meal in Lyon (to digest)! #HiddenGemRestaurants #FrenchCuisine #RestaurantRecommendation #LyonFood #LifeInFrance #Original
