🌴|The Mexican Rival to Din Tai Fung – Tac/Quila 🇲🇽🥟

Finally heading out for some fun! First stop: 🌴 Palm Springs 🏜️ Even the 40+°C heat couldn’t dull the enthusiasm of the restaurant staff—but it also didn’t stop the two flies that kept buzzing around us, as if welcoming us 😠. Maybe it was because there weren’t many customers after 2 PM—just a few scattered tables with iced drinks, while our table was piled high with delicious food. Let me break it down: Carne Asada Street Taco The beef was lean but tender and flavorful—not dry at all. A little salsa made it even better—so tasty!! [ss: Agreed! Even though it’s beef, the taco felt light and refreshing—totally changed my impression of Mexican food. When I visited Mexico, I almost starved, but this time I left full and happy 🐷] Grilled Shrimp Street Taco The shrimp were marinated—seriously large, tender, and bouncy. I think this was the best dish of the meal. Aguachile Oysters Wow, these were the freshest oysters I’ve ever had, perfectly seasoned. They came with small shrimp pieces, cucumber strips, and lime juice—absolutely divine. [ss: Aside from the lime I squeezed, I didn’t really taste much else in this dish…] Seabass This plate had a piece of seabass, three large shrimp, and some rice. The shrimp seasoning was similar to the taco—consistently delicious. The rice soaked in the broth was flavorful too. But the fish was way too dry—even drier than my homemade chicken breast. A bit disappointing. [ss: We squeezed grilled lime over it, and the rice became sooo good 🤤—much fresher!] Churro Ice Cream Sandwich Just when we were already stuffed, dessert arrived! Crispy, crunchy churros with excellent ice cream—a stunning combination. [ss: Hehe, sharing one was just perfect!] I mentioned how much I love buying churros at the zoo, but my girlfriend just rolled her eyes 🥺. After eating, we walked down the empty streets of Palm Springs. I asked, “On a scale of 0–10, what would you rate this place?” She said, “An 8.” [ss: DISCLAIMER❗️ Rating highly biased by the two tacos and dessert!] “So what Chinese restaurant would you rate an 8?” “Mian Tie Mian is maybe a 7… Din Tai Fung is probably an 8.” Ah, so this is the Mexican equivalent of Din Tai Fung! Overall, I agree with her take. Tac/Quila is a place I’d gladly eat at again—a couple of dishes even wowed me. If it weren’t for the enthusiastic flies and slightly high prices, it’d be even better. Solid 8. 👍 #PalmSprings #PalmSpringsEats #JoshuaTree #PalmSpringsFood #MexicanCuisine #DesertDining #FoodReview #CoupleEats #TravelEats #TacosAndTequila #HiddenGem #HeatWaveEats
