π¨π¦πΊπΈο½Day 4: Juneau Glacier Adventure on My Cruise Home
This tour was sneaky - you could ONLY book it through the cruise ship! π€ Since it's not peak season yet, the tour company didn't open public online bookings. Had to bite the bullet and pay cruise prices... but SO worth it!! β¨ Miraculously - after days of bad weather, we got perfect blue skies today! π Got super lucky sitting next to the pilot (probably because I was the lightest passenger lol) Got to watch all the cockpit operations + pilot's live glacier commentary π Flying over snow-capped mountains was breathtaking - then we LANDED ON A GLACIER! π They outfitted us with spiked crampon boots All windproof gear (jacket, pants, gloves, backpack) was provided No need to pack heavy winter clothes π The glacier was UNREAL blue Only the top layer exposed to air looked white with debris Got insane photos (check pic 3 - shot with macro lens!) Some surface areas had melted into water pools - scary to step on! Felt like walking on a frozen river π± π§ Drank fresh glacier water - so crisp and cold! β±οΈ Tour breakdown: Prep + 25min helicopter + 1hr on ice + 10min return flight π¦ Ate at famous Tracy's King Crab Shack DELICIOUS - you could tell it wasn't frozen! But $$$ - our combo (14oz crab) + drinks = $100 (One leg per person was surprisingly filling) π³ PS: Saw baby whales AND northern lights from the ship yesterday! (Last photo!) Next stop: Skagway's scenic train tomorrow! π #NaturePhotography #GlacierHiking #AlaskaAdventures #HelicopterTour #TravelDiaries βοΈπ
