🇹🇩 Victoria's Food Journal The Ruby on Johnson

📍 642A Johnson St, Victoria, BC V8W 1M6 This brunch spot is on the first floor of the Best Western hotel in Victoria Downtown—and wow, is it popular! We showed up at 1 PM on a weekend, and there was still a line—brunch hours really stretch here! 😂 The decor is totally (Americana) too—you’re greeted by a deer head right when you walk in, which is pretty iconic. There aren’t tons of servers, so you might wait a bit to flag someone down, but they’re all friendly once you do! 🆗 Americano 💰4.25 I forgot to take a photo, but it’s just your standard coffee—on the sour-bitter side, which isn’t my favorite. But hey, it worked its magic—definitely perked me up! ☕ 🆗 Acai Bowl 💰16 It’s a huge portion, and packed with stuff! The base is unsweetened Greek yogurt—super thick, but a little plain. The top is loaded with granola, pumpkin seeds, peanut bits, and fruit. The fruit was just okay, though: the blueberries looked big but were as tart as the strawberries, and the banana had lots of bruises and wasn’t very sweet. The pumpkin seeds and peanuts weren’t even that crunchy or fragrant, but at least they didn’t taste oily. The only saving grace? The granola—it’s sweet, crunchy, and actually delicious! 🍓 ✅ Fried Chicken & Waffle 💰23.5 This is the star! Three waffles, a big fried chicken breast, a runny-yolk poached egg, and maple syrup—heaven. The waffles aren’t huge, but they’re cooked perfectly: crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, with just the right bounce. The chicken? Fried to perfection—crunchy crust, not a bit greasy, and even though it’s chicken breast, it’s so tender, not dry at all. The salty chicken juices mixed with the sweet maple syrup? Total sweet-savory magic—couldn’t stop eating! 🍗🧇 🆗 Breakfast Tacos 💰21.5 You can pick 3 out of their 4 taco options—I skipped the vegetarian “Migas” and went for the other three. The “Don Chego” had good avocado, but the bacon was way too hard. “The Gambler” was the creamiest, so it’s the best of the three. “Country Trash” had smoked beef that was super tough and chewy—meh. The side hash browns, though? Chef’s kiss They’re not the usual patty—they’re crispy fried potato bits, crunchy outside, soft inside, and not greasy at all. So good! 🌼 #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGemRestaurant #FoodCheckIn #SoloDining #EatsAndTreats #VictoriaBrunch #Brunch #WhitePeopleFood #AcaiBowl #Waffles #Tacos
