🇨🇦 Victoria Food Diary #26|Sura Korean Restaurant

📍 Address: 1696 Douglas St, Victoria, BC V8W 2G6 Located in Victoria Downtown, this Korean BBQ spot looks spacious but has limited seating—most customers come for the grilled meats! 🔥 The staff was minimal, but since we visited on a quiet weekday evening, service was attentive and smooth. The banchan (side dishes) were plentiful—seven or eight small plates filled with pickled veggies and appetizers! The fish cake was particularly tasty, though the japchae-style sweet potato noodles in the sides were firmer than expected. 🥢✨ ✅ Gamjatang (Pork Bone Soup) for Two 💰 $49 Absolutely delicious—way better than their BBQ options, and great value for money! 🍲💯 The massive pot arrives fully cooked, kept warm on a tabletop burner so it stays piping hot throughout your meal. The broth is perfectly balanced—savory, slightly spicy, and deeply Korean in flavor. The soup comes with 6-7 large pork neck bones, each packed with tender meat that falls off effortlessly with chopsticks. 🥢🍖 The marrow inside is rich and flavorful—so satisfying to slurp! There are also 4-5 huge potato chunks (let them simmer a bit longer for maximum softness). I was craving tofu that day, so we asked to add some (even though it's usually part of the BBQ menu). The kitchen agreed for an extra $3, giving us 6 silky tofu cubes—worth it! The only downside? A mountain of green onions on top that took forever to pick out. 🌱😅 ✅ Japchae (Stir-Fried Glass Noodles) 💰 $29 Deceptively huge! 🍜🤯 At first glance, the portion seemed modest, but it felt endless—no matter how much we ate, half the plate remained! The sweet potato noodles were perfectly chewy (not rubbery), coated in a sweet-savory sauce with generous toppings: minced pork, mushrooms, carrots, onions, spinach, and toasted sesame seeds. Every bite was a flavor bomb! 💥👌 Final Thoughts Sura’s Gamjatang is a must-order—hearty, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. The Japchae is also fantastic, though the portion could feed a small army! 🤤🍚 #Canada #CanadianFood #VancouverIsland #ExploreBC #VictoriaBC #Foodie #WeeklyFoodAdventure #LifeMoments 🇨🇦🍽️🔥💖
