🇹🇩 Victoria Food Journal | The Ruby on Johnson

📍 642A Johnson St, Victoria, BC V8W 1M6 This brunch spot is on the first floor of the Best Western hotel in Victoria Downtown—and it’s wildly popular! We showed up at 1 PM on a weekend, and there was still a line—seriously, is this even brunch hour anymore? 😂 The decor is pure Americana, with a deer head greeting you right at the door, which is pretty iconic. There aren’t tons of servers, so you might wait a bit to flag someone down, but they’re all friendly once they do. JJ kept raving about how good it is, so of course we had to check it out! 🆗 Americano 💰4.25 Just your standard coffee—on the sour-bitter side, which isn’t my favorite. But hey, it did the job—woke me right up, so I can’t complain too much! ☕ ✅ Bacon Jam Egg Benny 💰22 Each Benny here comes with two eggs—JJ and I each ordered one, then split them so we could try both flavors. Smart move! The poached eggs are perfect: the whites are tender and wobbly, and the yolks are runny but not too loose—no eggy aftertaste at all. They drizzle on that classic egg benny sauce (yogurt, egg yolk, cheese), which is creamy with a hint of tang—light and refreshing, not heavy. Under the eggs, there’s a pile of bacon bits tossed in sweet BBQ sauce, which cuts through the bacon’s saltiness nicely. The base? A flattened toasted croissant—crunchy, buttery, and so good. The side hash browns are not your usual patty—they’re crispy fried potato chunks, crunchy on the outside, soft inside, and not a bit greasy. Dip ’em in ketchup, and you’ve got pure potato goodness. So tasty! đŸ„š 🆗 Mexi Benny + Croissant 💰21+1 This one’s on the milder side. The poached eggs are just as good—tender whites, runny yolks—and it gets the same yogurt-cheese sauce, plus a sprinkle of extra cheese (nice, but not game-changing). In the middle, there’s Mexican-spiced grilled chicken—honestly, it’s just regular grilled chicken, a little dry and chewy. It comes with tomato-heavy salsa, sour cream, and pickled beans, which makes the whole thing feel light and fresh—almost like a healthy meal. The base isn’t a croissant by default, but you can add one for $1—we did, obviously. Side was the same amazing hash browns, too! 🌼 #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGemRestaurant
