đšđŠ Victoria Food Journal | The Ruby on Johnson
đ 642A Johnson St, Victoria, BC V8W 1M6 This brunch spot is on the first floor of the Best Western hotel in Victoria Downtownâand itâs wildly popular! We showed up at 1 PM on a weekend, and there was still a lineâseriously, is this even brunch hour anymore? đ The decor is pure Americana, with a deer head greeting you right at the door, which is pretty iconic. There arenât tons of servers, so you might wait a bit to flag someone down, but theyâre all friendly once they do. JJ kept raving about how good it is, so of course we had to check it out! đ Americano đ°4.25 Just your standard coffeeâon the sour-bitter side, which isnât my favorite. But hey, it did the jobâwoke me right up, so I canât complain too much! â â Bacon Jam Egg Benny đ°22 Each Benny here comes with two eggsâJJ and I each ordered one, then split them so we could try both flavors. Smart move! The poached eggs are perfect: the whites are tender and wobbly, and the yolks are runny but not too looseâno eggy aftertaste at all. They drizzle on that classic egg benny sauce (yogurt, egg yolk, cheese), which is creamy with a hint of tangâlight and refreshing, not heavy. Under the eggs, thereâs a pile of bacon bits tossed in sweet BBQ sauce, which cuts through the baconâs saltiness nicely. The base? A flattened toasted croissantâcrunchy, buttery, and so good. The side hash browns are not your usual pattyâtheyâre crispy fried potato chunks, crunchy on the outside, soft inside, and not a bit greasy. Dip âem in ketchup, and youâve got pure potato goodness. So tasty! đ„ đ Mexi Benny + Croissant đ°21+1 This oneâs on the milder side. The poached eggs are just as goodâtender whites, runny yolksâand it gets the same yogurt-cheese sauce, plus a sprinkle of extra cheese (nice, but not game-changing). In the middle, thereâs Mexican-spiced grilled chickenâhonestly, itâs just regular grilled chicken, a little dry and chewy. It comes with tomato-heavy salsa, sour cream, and pickled beans, which makes the whole thing feel light and freshâalmost like a healthy meal. The base isnât a croissant by default, but you can add one for $1âwe did, obviously. Side was the same amazing hash browns, too! đź #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGemRestaurant
