🇩🇪 Germany Travel|Leipzig One-Day City Walk: Off-the-Beaten-Path Rou

This was my first time visiting a city in former East Germany—most of my travels had been in West Germany before. Leipzig is the second-largest city in the east and served as the cultural heart of East Germany after the war. Leipzig University is one of the oldest in Germany, second only to Heidelberg. Its list of distinguished alumni is impressive, with Goethe being the most famous. 🎓✨ City Walk Route: In the city center, you’ll find: Goethe’s statue St. Nicholas Church The architecture in front of the Westin Hotel Graffiti-covered buildings near the Marriott But what really caught my attention were these hidden gems 🧭: 🏭 Plagwitz Industrial Heritage A former industrial area transformed into a vibrant arts district. ⚪ Oscar Niemeyer Sphere One of the last works of the legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer. His assistants brought his sketches to life after his passing. The sphere appears to be “parasitically” embedded into the building—futuristic and surreal. 🎨 Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei A cotton mill turned art district—often considered the prototype for Beijing’s 798 Art Zone. Here you’ll find countless art galleries, studios, and regular exhibitions. Perfect for a creative stroll! 🎶 For classical music lovers, Leipzig is pilgrimage-worthy: Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann—I visited museums for all of them. My favorite was the Mendelssohn Museum 🎻. Even without a Chinese audio guide, the interactive exhibits were engaging and easy to follow. Upstairs, there’s even a listening room where you can “conduct” your own symphony! Leipzig is a city deeply immersed in art and culture. This time I skipped the zoo—saving that for next time! 🐘🌿 #Leipzig #OffTheBeatenPath #ClassicalMusic #ArtDistrict #CulturalTravel
