🇩🇪 Leipzig Local Gem: Authentic German Restaurant 🍽️
Apels Garten Located just a street away from St. Thomas Church ⛪. As recommended by a walking tour guide, Kolonnadenstraße 19 is known for its cozy, fairly priced local restaurants and cafés — and this spot did not disappoint! I purposely skipped schnitzel in Berlin, saving my appetite for my first proper meal in Leipzig — and it was absolutely worth the wait. This might just be the best meal I’ve had so far in Germany! 😋 The meal began with a complimentary starter: a tangy lentil salad marinated in vinegar — refreshing and light. On a Saturday evening, the dining room was quiet and calm. My main course arrived within just 10 minutes: a golden, crispy schnitzel served with pan-fried potatoes and mixed vegetables. The plate was still warm — a lovely touch. The schnitzel was perfectly seasoned and fragrant, with a crunchy breadcrumb coating and tender meat inside. Unlike chewy Japanese tonkatsu, German schnitzel has a comforting tenderness that melts slowly as you chew. Squeeze lemon juice over it right after taking that foodie pic 📸 — the citrus cuts beautifully through the richness. Paired with a cool German beer 🍺 (around €4), each bite felt more relaxing than the last. I slowly savored the meal, enjoyed the music, and admired the elegant coiled light fixtures above… until all that was left on the white plate were delicious memories. Though the portion looked large, taking your time with a beer in hand makes it all so enjoyable. Schnitzel: €17 | Beer: around €4 #Leipzig #GermanFood #SchnitzelLove #LeipzigTravel #GermanBeer #AuthenticDining 🇩🇪✨
