🇫🇷 Caen Food Guide: Must-Try & Skip List

Just spent my last days in Normandy's Caen before sailing back to the UK—cherishing every bite of authentic French cuisine! Here’s my foodie recap (with some drama 🍽️💥): 1️⃣ Boeuf & Cow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) Wasn’t my first choice (everyone raves about their tripes, but I prefer Chinese spicy hotpot tripe 😆). Plan A failed: The local Michelin-starred spot closed permanently 😢. Plan B flopped: Magana (Michelin-chef-owned) canceled lunch last minute (next time, Caen!). But Boeuf & Cow DELIVERED! 🎯 English menu available (though my "mussels" order turned into champagne 😂—saved by French diners who insisted "here for BEEF!"). Star dish: Steak + Baked Camembert (Normandy on a plate!): Local filet steak 🥩 Melted Camembert (creamy, dreamy!) 🧀 Normandy cider & apples 🍎 Crispy fries 🍟 Kid-approved: Huge beef burger devoured instantly! Too full for dessert—but zero regrets. 2️⃣ Le Bistrot Basque ⚠️ (Mixed Feelings…) A steakhouse 150m from my hotel. Ordered: "Mango Fish" 🐟: Sour sauce + hard multigrain rice = German canteen vibes 😑. Filet Steak (medium-rare): 5cm thick but BLOODY inside (sent back twice, still raw 🩸). Topped with Camembert (only saving grace). Dessert? Lost my appetite… Silver lining: Staff apologized & only charged for the fish—props for accountability! 👍 Northern French folks keep it real. Final Verdict: ✅ Boeuf & Cow = MUST-EAT! ❌ Le Bistrot Basque = Skip unless you like tartar-by-accident. #NormandyFood #FrenchCuisine #CaenEats #BoeufAndCow #FoodieFails #TravelTips 🍷🇫🇷
