🇫🇷 Day 1 in Caen: Paris → Normandy Adventure
After landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, we made a spontaneous decision to drive straight to Caen instead of taking the train. Why? Because by the time we'd transfer from the airport to Paris' train stations, we could already be halfway to Normandy! 🚗💨 🌄 Scenic Road Trip Through Normandy The 2.5-hour drive treated us to breathtaking pastoral landscapes that felt straight out of a storybook: Rolling green hills dotted with ancient hedgerows Vast grazing lands reminiscent of Inner Mongolia's Hulunbuir (but with a French twist!) Traditional cylindrical hay bales (just like in rural France photos) Happy cow herds 🐄 chilling in golden-hour light Charming stone farmhouses with flower-filled gardens 🌸 Fun fact: Normandy’s cows are celebrities—their milk makes the world’s best Camembert cheese! 🧀 ⛪️ First Stop: Caen’s Historic Heart After check-in, we headed straight to: 1️⃣ Saint-Pierre Church – A Gothic masterpiece with stunning stained glass and soothing organ music that gave us instant inner peace. 2️⃣ Pedestrian Streets – Lined with half-timbered houses, crêperies, and boutique chocolatiers. 🌇 "Late" Sunset Surprise At 9:20 PM, the sun was still shining! ☀️ Normandy’s summer light had us questioning time zones. Pro tip: Blackout curtains are essential for jet-lagged travelers! 🍽️ Dinner Plans (Spoiler: It Involves Cheese) Tonight’s mission: Hunt for authentic Tripes à la mode de Caen (braised tripe) and local cider. Stay tuned for the food report! #CaenDiaries #NormandyRoadTrip #FrenchCountryside #SlowTravel #JetLagStruggles
