🇬🇧 Day Trip from London - Leicester 🚂

Q1. Why choose this place? A city within 2 hours by train from London, Manchester, and Sheffield – easy to meet up with friends! No other particular reason 😄. Q2. Any itinerary plans? Since I wasn’t traveling alone, I kept it flexible with zero fixed plans 🫶. Still, I hoped to visit some iconic spots: parks, the cathedral, and the space museum. Lunch was decided long before: Cantonese dim sum – Imperial Leicester 🥢 Coffee ☕: Mrs. Bridges Tea Room or &kith Q3. What did you actually do? Abbey Park, Clock Tower ⏰, Town Hall, Leicester Market 🛒, Guildhall Museum 🏛️, King Richard III Visitor Centre, Imperial Leicester, and &kith Q4. Thoughts on the city? Well-equipped with basics, though many small shops felt quiet. A multicultural city with visible diversity 🌍. Maybe because it’s a university town + summer break – even the city center wasn’t crowded. The street murals are gorgeous 🎨! Wandering around felt like a street art hunt 🖼️. Some pieces made me want to know the stories behind them – they truly add color and character to the city. Compared to Folkestone (which leans toward installation art with explanations), Leicester’s art feels more open to interpretation. The food did NOT disappoint – highly recommended! Dim sum pastries (egg tarts, char siu, taro puffs) were especially amazing. Other dishes weren’t overly seasoned, and the congee was super smooth 🍲. The pistachio latte (2 shots) was perfectly sweet ☕ – though I didn’t try others, so can’t compare. On a reflective note 📖: While studying "Life in the UK", I got curious about British monarchy. Richard III’s story is a real Rashomon-style tale 🎭, partly shaped by Shakespeare. It’s said he imprisoned his young nephews (Edward V & the Duke of York) in the Tower of London, where they were later killed. Richard eventually became king but died in battle. Was he a power-hungry tyrant or a misunderstood ruler? History remains split… and the truth is still a mystery. Q5. Any regrets? Many places close early or aren’t open on Sundays 😢. The cathedral was closed; The Tiny Bakery wasn’t operating. Note: Free city buses run Mon–Sat (trial until October this year). Q6. Total cost? Lunch: £91 (15 dishes) Coffee: £5.5 Train: £46 (round trip from London) #UKTravel 🇬🇧 #DayTripFromLondon 🚆 #Leicester #StreetArt 🎨 #DimSumLove 🥟 #BritishHistory
