🇬🇧 Durdle Door | One-Day Solo Trip from London
If you’re planning a day trip from London, head to Durdle Door in the southwestern corner of the UK! Besides the iconic arch itself, you’ll also get to experience the Jurassic Coast, white cliffs, and a stunning turquoise "jelly sea." 🌊🏞️ Read the guide below to make your trip smooth and easy! Date: Saturday, September 14, 2024 Transportation: 🚞 2.5-hour train from London Waterloo Station to Wool Station 👉 🚌 20-minute bus ride (Bus 30/31) to Durdle Door 👉 👣 20-minute walk Here’s the detailed guide—every tip is useful! 1️⃣ When boarding the train at London Waterloo, make sure to get on Coach 1-5. The train splits midway, and only the first five coaches go to the final destination. If unsure, check the signs or listen to the announcements! 📣 2️⃣ Right outside Wool Station, take Bus 30 or 31 (one goes to Lulworth Cove first, the other to Durdle Door first, but both will get you there). The bus departure times are closely aligned with the train arrival, so if the train isn’t delayed, you’ll easily catch the bus! Buses run on weekends, but the schedule changes on Sundays. For the best views, sit on the upper deck! 🚌💨 3️⃣ The bus stops at Durdle Door Park Entrance. Cross the road, go down the stairs, and follow the forest path for about 10 minutes to reach the actual entrance. There are also small stalls selling snacks and drinks. From there, it’s another 10+ minutes downhill to the beach. 4️⃣ Once you arrive, you can swim, paddleboard, or have a picnic on the beach. However, the terrain is rocky and uneven—avoid wearing sandals! Opt for sturdy, comfortable shoes that keep sand and stones out. Don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen! 😎👟 5️⃣ For the return trip, note that the bus (e.g., Bus 30) runs in a loop. Wait at the same stop where you got off, not the opposite side. If unsure, ask the driver if the bus is heading to Wool Train Station. Buses usually come once an hour, but sometimes the gap can be longer. The uphill walk back is tiring, so allocate 30-40 minutes to return from the beach to the bus stop to avoid missing the bus. The bus typically arrives at the station about 10 minutes before the train back to London departs. 6️⃣ That’s it—no more tips!
