🇬🇧 Finally Arrived at Windsor Castle, But the Queen Is Long Gone 👸
Driving from central London takes over an hour, but from Heathrow Airport, it’s just a quick 20-minute ride 🚙. This largest inhabited castle in the world began construction in the 1070s under William the Conqueror, evolving from a defensive fortress into one of the British royal family’s primary residences 🏰. Of course, us common folk only get access to less than 30% of the castle—when the royals aren’t using it. But behind those rough stone walls lies sheer opulence and grandeur on a massive scale. Stepping out of Windsor Castle into the quaint town of Windsor, you go from the vast royal courtyards straight into narrow, classic British lanes—a blunt reminder of class hierarchy 😅. Still, it’s charming and worth a stroll. On High Street, The Crooked House of Windsor has stood since the 16th century, allegedly the oldest tea house in England. Its warped wooden frame, tilted from centuries of wear, is now its biggest attraction, still welcoming guests today. Meanwhile, the old Windsor train station has been gentrified into a shopping complex, with the former waiting room turned into a café—pretty amusing! When I first came to the UK, I dreamed of visiting Windsor Castle to see where the Queen lived. Now, I finally have the chance… but the Queen is no longer here. 💔 #WindsorCastle #DayTripsFromLondon #UKRoadTrip #BritishCastles #StudyAbroadUK #UKTravel
