🇬🇧 London | Westminster Abbey (Part 1)

✨ Founded by Edward the Confessor in the 11th century, rebuilt in Gothic style by Henry III in 1245, and later enhanced by Henry VII’s Lady Chapel (16th century). The iconic twin towers were added in the 18th century. 👑 Since 1066, it has hosted: ✔️ Every British coronation ✔️ 16 royal weddings (including Will & Kate!) ✔️ Burials of monarchs, poets, scientists & heroes (Shakespeare’s memorial, Newton’s tomb…) ✔️ Daily worship services—still a living church! 🏛️ Gothic Grandeur: Aerial view: Cross-shaped layout (nave = long arm, transepts = short arms) West Front: Twin towers + Crimea & Indian Mutiny Memorial (1861) North Door: Dramatic flying buttresses, rose window, and carvings of Christ & angels 📅 Our Visit: May 8: Closed for VE Day—empty & serene 😌 May 10: Packed with tourists! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ (Pro tip: Book online to skip queues!) 👗 Dress Code Note: Locals in elegant attire for events made our T-shirts & fleeces feel very out of place! 😅 #London #UKTravel #WestminsterAbbey #BritishHistory #GothicArchitecture #RoyalSites 🇬🇧✨
