๐ฎ๐น Palazzo Vecchio from "Inferno" ๐ฌ๐ฐ
๐ Florence's Old Town Hall (also a museum) Florence feels like a city draped in translucent golden gauze โจ๐ Everywhere you turn, historic streets and weathered walls captivate - a paradise for free-roaming pigeons! ๐๏ธ๐ I passed by twice without realizing what this was - what a missed opportunity! ๐ Tourists without preparation truly miss out. If you're like me visiting Florence for the first time, besides the iconic Duomo (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore), this is the next major landmark. Fun fact: both were originally designed by the same architect! ๐ทโโ๏ธ๐จ Walking inside felt strangely familiar thanks to "Inferno"'s detailed descriptions ๐ฅ๐ Some areas shown in the movie are actually off-limits to visitors! Pro tip: get tickets to the tower and underground chambers (if open). The famous Salone dei Cinquecento (Hall of Five Hundred) where Tom Hanks searched for clues in the frescoes could easily occupy 1-2 hours of your time! โณ๐คฏ Sadly I missed Dante's "Death Mask" - said to be cast directly from the poet's face after death ๐๐ญ The view from the windows showcases breathtaking Florence panoramas. The blue-and-gold wall patterns and the honeycomb-like ceiling by Giovanni da Maiano and Francione will make you linger endlessly. ๐ฆ๐ The last Medici heir, Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, decreed: "All Medici collections shall remain in Florence for public display." ๐ฃ๏ธ๐ Her donation turned Palazzo Vecchio into Florence's Royal Museum. Built in 1299 as Florence's government seat ๐๏ธ๐, it became the Medici ducal palace before being renamed "Old Palace" (Palazzo Vecchio) when they moved to Palazzo Pitti. The multiple names can be confusing at first! ๐ค๐ญ Ticket tip ๐ซ: Visit during off-peak afternoon/evening hours to buy tickets at the ground floor window (Fig.1). Super convenient! ๐ #MustVisitMuseums #CulturalSites #MuseumAdventures #TopAttractions #Travel #ItalyTravel
