🇱🇾 Apollonia, Libya – First Chinese Visitors Since 2011!
🙋♂️ Hey friends! Tommy here—189 countries and counting! 😇 We’ve just made history as the first Chinese travelers to visit Apollonia, Libya since the 2011 civil war! April 9, 2025—mark the date! 📅 🏛️ The Lost Greek Port City One of Cyrenaica’s five great Greek city-states, founded in the 6th century BC and named after Apollo, the sun god. Legend says its first settlers sailed from Santorini (ancient Thera) 🏝️ to this Libyan coast. Located 250 km east of Benghazi, near Susah, right by the Mediterranean Sea 🌊. 🌅 A Ruin Bathed in Golden Light The remains—Byzantine churches, colonnaded streets, Roman baths, and a seaside theater—glow magically at sunset ☀️. 🤔 Why Did Greeks Settle Here? We debated why they chose eastern Libya over other lands. Our theories: 1️⃣ Closer to Greece—easier sailing from the Aegean via Crete than to Cyprus or Egypt. 2️⃣ Fertile land! Unlike Phoenician traders or Roman conquerors, Greeks sought farmable soil—and Benghazi’s green hills were perfect. 🚶♂️ Exploring Alone—Total Privacy! Cyrene had a few locals, but Apollonia? Just us. Pure solitude in an ancient world. ⚠️ Travel Reality Check ✔ Extremely rare visit—few tourists since 2011. ✔ No crowds, no barriers—just raw history. ✔ Part of Libya’s forgotten heritage—preservation is minimal. #HiddenGem #WorldHeritage #Libya #AncientGreece #MediterraneanVibes #Cyrene #Apollonia #TravelTheWorld 🌍✨
