🇳🇱 A Small but Charming Day Trip to Arnhem, Netherlands
Highly recommend this lovely small city, Arnhem, just an hour’s train ride from Amsterdam. If you’re planning a weekend day trip, here’s a suggested itinerary: Morning ☀️ Start your day at Eusebius Church (Foundation Eusebius Arnhem)—free with a Museumkaart and no reservation needed. This church has always had a knack for business: in the past, wealthy families paid to be buried in its crypt, and today, visitors can explore the underground tombs. The church also features a glass elevator that takes you to the top, with glass platforms on the 6th and 7th floors for stunning panoramic views. (Fun fact: The original church was destroyed in WWII in 1944, and the current structure was rebuilt 45 years later.) Lunch Time 🍽️ After the church, head toward the Rhine River and stop by Foodhall Arnhem for a global culinary experience. Just grab a seat, scan the QR code, and order from over a dozen international food stalls—including a Sichuan stall serving dan dan noodles! We went for Middle Eastern pork ribs—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, absolutely delicious! Afternoon Options 🏛️⚔️ WWII History Buffs: Visit the John Frost Bridge and the nearby Airborne Museum, the site of the famous Battle of Arnhem (a failed Allied operation in 1944). Not into war history? Skip it and head straight to the highlight of the trip! Must-Visit: Open Air Museum 🌳🚂 This isn’t just a museum—it’s a huge, beautiful park (also free with Museumkaart). Hop on a vintage tram that loops around five themed stops (kinda like Disneyland!). Here, you can: Learn how butter, cheese, and Dutch gin (jenever) are made. Explore traditional Dutch fishermen’s houses, workers’ cottages, and old freight stations. See historic windmills, trams, and adorable farm animals. Trust me, this place is 100% worth it! #NetherlandsTravel #Arnhem #HiddenGems
