๐ธ๐ฌ Authentic Singaporean Food in Downtown Toronto
When I first tried ๐ Kiss My Pans, their Hainanese chicken rice was only available on Mondays. But the place quickly gained fame โ not only because itโs one of the few spots in DT serving real Singaporean flavors, but also because Michelle Yeoh herself has been known to order their chicken rice when sheโs in Toronto! ๐๐ฌ From a hidden gem to an internet sensation โ I hadnโt been back in a whileโฆ Until recently, when I passed through Cabbagetown and spotted a totally new Singaporean restaurant! ๐ฒ Turns out itโs ๐ Kiss My Pansโ second location โ opened quietly, with zero hype. It feels like the owner is going back to their roots: an unexpected location, no marketing, and only a few signature dishes + traditional Singaporean shaved ice. The new spot only offers three mains: ๐ Hainanese Chicken Rice ๐ Laksa ๐ Bak Chor Mee (Minced Meat Noodles) The chicken rice is just as authentic as ever โ Tender chicken, fragrant oily rice, two iconic sauces: thick dark soy and spicy chili. Excellent! Finish with a bowl of chicken broth โ so satisfying even on a hot day. The laksa is rich and coconutty โ the broth is everything. If thereโs one downside: $24 per dish is a bit pricey. They also serve a variety of Kopi (traditional coffee) and Kaya Toast Sets โ๐ The set is $12 โ pretty reasonable! Comes with kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and a cup of kopi. And because itโs so hotโฆ donโt miss their Chendol! ๐ง Coconut milk over shaved ice, with pandan jelly strips and sweet red beans โ so refreshing! Eat it all together for the full experience. ๐ Agak Agak 253 Gerrard St E, Toronto #TorontoFood #SingaporeanCuisine #HiddenGems #DTToronto #HainaneseChickenRice
