I visited Fairbanks for the second time, and it was another snowy adventure! ❄️ Here’s my honest recap of where to eat, explore, and enjoy — along with what to watch out for. 🍽️ FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS Breakfast & Brunch: 1️⃣ Aurora Crepes & Peking Duck 🦆 A warm jianbing (Chinese-style crepe) in the freezing cold — what an experience! 😋 ⚠️ But be warned: They are extremely slow! Order at least an hour in advance. 🚫 Avoid their bubble tea — it tastes artificial and unpleasant. 📦 Also, food delivery in Fairbanks can be unreliable — even tipping well doesn’t guarantee a driver! 2️⃣ The Crepery 🥞 Delicious and popular — order online ahead of time and pick it up by rideshare. Mornings can get busy with long waits! Dinner: 1️⃣ Lemongrass Thai Food 🍛 Consistently tasty — you can’t go wrong here! Authentic, homestyle Thai food, friendly service, and always bustling. 2️⃣ The Pump House 🦌 A local spot — make a reservation! Try the reindeer meat and check out the bear specimen at the entrance. 🏠 Rustic American decor, decent food — but keep expectations realistic (it’s no big-city fine dining). 3️⃣ Soba 🍰 Cozy and popular — reserve ahead! I only tried their takeout desserts, but the honey cake and sour cherry cream were simple yet delicious — no artificial cherry syrup here! Ice Cream & Drinks: 1️⃣ Sweet Monster 🧋🍦 Their bubble tea is actually drinkable (not the “one-sip-and-spit” kind!). Cute and tasty ice cream too! 2️⃣ Cold Stone Creamery 🍨 A classic American ice cream chain — on the sweeter side, but a local favorite. 🛍️ SHOPPING 1️⃣ REI (outdoor gear store) — about a 10-minute walk from the jianbing spot. 2️⃣ Bentley Mall — right across from REI, with various stores including Foot Locker for shoes. ⏰ Check opening hours — they can vary! 🚗 TRAVEL TIP: DRIVING IN FAIRBANKS ⚠️ Not recommended for inexperienced drivers! Road conditions can be dangerous in winter — even as someone from snowy Northeast China, I’ve heard of accidents involving tourists here.
