🇺🇸 Hike of the Week｜Mugu Peak in Los Angeles 🏔️🌊

Mountains in LA are mostly concentrated in the Angeles National Forest to the north 🏞️—these peaks are higher and even get snow in winter! ❄️ Another popular area is west toward Malibu and Santa Monica 🌊, known for its coastal vibes and ocean views. This week’s hike: Mugu Peak to La Jolla Valley Loop in Malibu. It’s a “tough start, sweet finish” kind of trail—you begin with a steep climb, but it levels out into smoother paths later. 🥾💪 On the way back, the trail was pretty quiet. I ran into a young Mexican guy who didn’t speak much English—he kept saying “stop, stop!” 🛑 When I looked closer, I spotted a rattlesnake on the side of the path! 🐍 I was tempted to sneak past quietly, but the guy gestured for me to step back. He threw a few rocks, then broke off a big branch to gently guide the snake away.
