🇺🇸 LA|Izakaya Akatsuki – Revisited Because of the Comments! 🍶

After I posted about their famous mentaiko hot pot last time, quite a few people saw it—and one commenter mentioned that the kama-meshi (claypot rice) is actually their hidden treasure! 🏮 Last time I went too late and missed it… so I made sure to schedule another visit just for that! I still remember the kama-meshi from Okan in San Diego—it left such a lasting impression. So, expectations were high! And the conclusion: It was delicious! 😋 The small mushrooms added freshness, though their flavor was subtle—maybe overpowered by the fish roe, haha! The texture was great and really fun to eat. The fried mochi soup was as good as ever—warm and comforting. And the tuna with grated yam? Super Japanese, super unique! With enough wasabi, it really hits the spot. 🍠🐟 One weird thing about this place though: Aside from their signature dishes, the rest of the menu can be pretty hit-or-miss—more like miss, honestly. 😅 If it’s something you can get at any other izakaya—like chicken wings, tempura, or grilled tongue—skip it here. Not worth it. But the stuff that’s hard to find elsewhere—like the mentaiko hot pot and kama-meshi—are the real winners! ✅ What’s a dish you’ve traveled far (or returned) just to eat again? 🍚✈️ Or do you have a favorite izakaya dish that’s hard to find?
