🇺🇸 Louisville, Here We Come!
Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky 🏙️. It took us less than two hours to drive from our hotel in Indy, so we couldn’t miss the chance to explore! 🏇 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville is a must-see! This annual event is the largest horse race in the U.S., earning Kentucky the nickname "The Horse Racing Capital" 🐎. Derby races feature 3-year-old thoroughbreds. The statue in Fig. 11 honors Barbaro, the legendary horse who won the 2006 Kentucky Derby. After suffering a fracture in May 2006, Barbaro underwent a 5-hour surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Sadly, two months later, he developed laminitis. Since horses with broken legs cannot live comfortably, the vet made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him 😢. Barbaro’s ashes now rest beneath this statue. Learning about Barbaro’s story and the realities of horse racing left me reflecting: Human enjoyment of this sport comes at the cost of these magnificent animals’ suffering. 🍽️ Must-Try Food: Mima’s Cuban Cuisine Topped our Louisville food list! Recommended by locals, Mima transports you to 1950s Havana with its retro vibes 🎶. We ordered their signature dishes: 🦐 Garlic Shrimp - Fragrant and flavorful! 🐟 Fried Fish - My favorite! Thick, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside fish fillet, served with fresh salsa and avocado salad. Absolutely perfection! A must-order! 👍 #Louisville #KentuckyDerby #HorseRacing #TravelUSA #CubanFood #FoodieAdventure #AnimalWelfare #Barbaro #MimaRestaurant
