Mile Square Park — A Perfect Spot for Exercise & Relaxation 🏞️✨ This park is literally shaped like a square, with each side measuring about one mile—a peaceful green escape right in the middle of the city! Half of the area is an 18-hole golf course ⛳, making the whole space feel open and pleasant to walk through. There are two lakes inside the park. Near Freedom Hall, at Palm Island Lake, you can rent swan boats 🦢, kayaks, and covered 1-4 person pedal bikes for a fun ride on the water! Fishing is allowed here 🎣, but anyone 16 or older needs a fishing license (uniformed patrol officers do check!). There are so many ducks—and they’re totally fearless! 🦆 If you walk along the lake or on the grass, watch your step… because duck poop is everywhere! 💩 Public restrooms are available, so no worries there. I saw a couple of unhoused individuals during my visit, but they were quiet and resting on the grass—I didn’t feel unsafe at all. I usually park along Edinger Ave (there's also parking inside the park). On weekdays after 3 or 4 PM, you’ll see lots of people jogging, walking, biking, and walking their dogs or strolling with kids around the park paths. A full loop around the park plus some time by the lakes will easily get you over 10,000 steps! 🚶♀️📊 There’s a similar spot in LA—Echo Park Lake—but driving back and forth would take two hours… so why not enjoy this beautiful local gem? This park is great for bringing kids to ride bikes 🚲, has a cool playground, and offers lovely lakeside paths perfect for a relaxing walk. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets nearby—grab some groceries on your way home!
