🇺🇸 Tampa | The Most Charming Greek Town in Florida 🇬🇷🏝️
The biggest surprise of my Florida trip—Tarpon Springs! This coastal Greek gem is just a 40-minute drive northwest of downtown Tampa. 🎣 A Town Built on Sponges Originally settled by Greek immigrants who harvested natural sea sponges, this town is now a unique tourist spot. Forget souvenir magnets—here you’ll find natural sponges, olive oil soaps, and handmade loofahs! 🍽️ Lunch at the Legendary: 🌟 Hellas Restaurant & Bakery 🌟 Their menu is HUGE, packed with authentic Greek dishes and desserts! What We Ordered: 🍴 Roast Leg of Lamb – Tender and juicy, not dry at all! 🍴 Broiled Mediterranean Seafood Combo – Scallops & shrimp were huge and fresh! 🍴 Salmon Dodecanese – Grilled salmon with tomato-lobster cream sauce + fire-roasted feta cheese (🔥 BEST DISH! 🌟🌟🌟🌟) 🍴 Grouper ala Hellas – Local grouper in Greek herbs & garlic butter (🌟🌟🌟 Must-try!) Drinks: 🍸 Mango & Peach Sangria – Refreshing and delicious! ☕️ Freddo Cappuccino – Strong Greek coffee… My friend (just back from Greece) downed three cups! 😳 🛍️ After Lunch Exploration: 📍 Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks (A MUST-VISIT!) Shops sell all kinds of sponges (some soft for bathing, others firm for scrubbing). The kind owner (a sponge-diving veteran) shared stories of old-school divers who braved the seas in heavy suits—true legends! 🎥 Bonus: A mini-theater plays a documentary on the history of sponge diving! 🚗 Parking Tip: Look for FREE lots near the restaurant—many charge $10+. #FloridaTravel #TarponSprings #TampaTourism #GreekVibes #FoodieFinds #HellasRestaurant #NaturalSponges #HandmadeSoaps #TravelGram
