Just a week before the Trump incident, I visited Fordās Theatre in DC, where Lincoln was assassinated. At the time, I couldnāt help but wonder how easily a presidential assassination was carried out back then.š š”ļø How It Happened In April 1865, as the Civil War was nearing its end, Lincolnās firm stance on abolishing slavery had angered many Southern sympathizers. On the evening of the 14th, the assassin hid a small pistol in his shoe and sneaked into Lincolnās theater box while his bodyguard was away. He shot Lincoln in the back of the head with a derringer Lincoln passed away the next day.š š§© Visitor Tips Fordās Theatre is a super underrated spot in DC. Allow 1-2 hours for your visit. Itās close to other popular attractions and totally worth seeing!š Timed entry tickets can be reserved online for a fee, but walk-in tickets are free. Since itās not too crowded, you can easily get in without a reservation. Make sure to grab a ticket that includes museum access ā look for "Museum Entry".š The theatre still hosts live performances ā check the schedule if youāre interested. Donāt miss the exhibition across the street: a massive installation made of thousands of books about Lincoln, stacked three stories high. You can take the elevator up and walk down through the levels.š š Nearby Attractions Hard Rock Cafe: Great for meals or just browsing memorabilia from famous concerts.
