๐บ๐ธ๐ Travel Diary: Louisville, Kentucky
Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky โ just under a 2-hour drive from our hotel in Indianapolis! ๐๐จ Naturally, we couldnโt miss it. ๐ Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs: Louisville hosts the largest Derby horse race in the US โ earning Kentucky the title โHorse Racing Capitalโ! ๐โจ All Derby horses are 3-year-old thoroughbreds. The statue in Fig. 7 honors Barbaro, the legendary horse who won the 2006 Kentucky Derby. After breaking his leg in May 2006, Barbaro underwent a 5-hour surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Sadly, he developed laminitis two months later. As horses with broken legs often face immense suffering, the vet made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him. Barbaroโs ashes now rest beneath this statue. After learning about horse anatomy and Barbaroโs story, I reflected deeply: Human enjoyment of horse racing comes at the cost of these magnificent animalsโ pain. ๐โค๏ธ ๐ฝ๏ธ Must-Eat in Louisville: Mimaโs Cuban Cuisine ๐จ๐บ Topped our food list! Highly recommended by locals, Mima teleports you to 1950s Havana with its retro vibe and nostalgic decor. ๐ถ๐ด We ordered their famous Camarones al Ajillo (garlic shrimp) and Pescado Crujiente (fried fish). The fish was incredible โ thick, crispy outside, tender inside, bursting with juice! ๐๐ฅ Paired with salsa and avocado salad, it was perfection. A must-try! #Louisville #Kentucky #TravelUSA #HorseRacing #CubanFood #AnimalAwareness #FoodDiary ๐ฅ
